Monthly Nano News: December 2019 + Year Recap Special
This is what NANO has been up to lately. I don't think I lie if I say it has been quite an amazing year! See you soon and happy new year! Something nice is coming soon that I have been working on for a while, stay tuned..
Hi everyone, I've been using Gridcoin for about 2.5 years and been crunching for 3! Here is how I got to where I am now: My story starts as a kid still in secondary school. At the time I was obsessed with computers, so much so that I decided to start teaching myself computer science at the age of 12 so that I could understand how the monster that my computer was worked. Also during this time was the slowly rising price of Bitcoin, I think I still have a screenshot on my phone of when it was around $500! I never knew of any alternate currencies at that time other than Ethereum until I was browsing the [email protected] forums and checking out my sick RAC when I found a currency called Gridcoin mentioned in one of the posts. Upon searching, I landed on the o' great and powerful www.gridcoin.us where I downloaded the wallet and took it for a spin. This was the very first time that I ever laid hands on a cryptocurrency (I was about 14-15 years old at the time) and it was quite a phenomenal journey. Unlike many others, I followed the instructions on the site and everything worked extremely well without issue and I was well on my way to utilising the blockchain for its full potential. I started out with a measly 20 GRC. This was back in the day when you could reasonably stake with that much. Sooner I started working my way up and found myself harbouring a small bank account of my own digital assets. By using Gridcoin I came to understand the fundamentals of a blockchain from an extremely early age, and this has enabled me to create presentations to teach others how cryptocurrency really works. I am extremely honored to have gained this knowledge from a project I so loved. I used to (and still to this day) crunch half on the pool and half solo. My first project was [email protected] which was soon followed by [email protected] which I ran on my mac using my school's electricity, then choosing GPUgrid while on the older GRC pool (http://gridcoin.co/) before exploring many other projects. You can still see how well I did on [email protected] back in the day just by looking at the proportions of credit: https://preview.redd.it/cefencxnh8r11.png?width=1014&format=png&auto=webp&s=c01fdf05466a3df7ab889089330f474cb561a655 Now, as you can see, I solo crunch Primegrid (with a success in finding a 388k digit prime!) along with Rosetta occasionally, SRBase (which is a horror when it comes to getting tasks before everyone else does) and DHEP which I am currently in a craze about. On my other machines crunching for the pool, I put all earnings into the GRC Wallet Bot that I own in order to give out as starter coins or to top-up the faucet. I crunch WCG (for those amazing GBYTE rewards) along with [email protected] and recently GPUgrid which nicely keep my faucet topped-up. Gridcoin and BOINC have done so much for me, even gone as far as to provide me with something to put on my resume, and I hope I can give as much back to the community too. You guys have been amazing and I hope to work with you a lot more in the future. <3
how to shibecoin v rich in minutes much instruct so simple any doge can do
UPDATE 1/21/14: I'm not updating this guide anymore. Most of the steps should still work though. See the wiki or check the sidebar for updated instructions. Before you do anything else, you need to get a wallet. Until there's a secure online wallet, this means you need to download the dogecoin client. Now open the client you just downloaded. You'll be given a default address automatically, and it should connect to peers and start downloading the dogechain (aka blockchain in formal speak). You'll know because there will be a progress bar at the bottom and at the lower right there should be a signal strength icon (TODO: add screenshots). If you've waited 2 or 3 minutes and nothing is happening, copy this:
And paste it into a new text file called dogecoin.conf, which you then place into the dogecoin app directory.
On Windows this is C:\Users\[YOUR_USER]\AppData\Roaming\DogeCoin
On Macs it's ~/Library/Application Support/DogeCoin
Now restart your qt client and the blockchain should start downloading in about 1-2 minutes. Once it finished downloading, you're ready to send and receive Dogecoins!
Decide how you want to get Dogecoin. Your options are:
I'll go into detail about each of these. I'm currently writing this out. I'll make edits as I add sections. Suggestions are welcome.
Mining is how new dogecoins are created. If you're new to crypto currencies, read this. To mine (also called "digging"), a computer with a decent GPU (graphics card) is recommended. You can also mine with your CPU, but it's not as efficient.
These instructions cover only Windows for now. To mine, you'll need to figure out what GPU you have. It'll be either AMD/ATI or Nvidia. The setup for both is approximately the same.
Step One: Choose a pool
There's a list of pools on the wiki. For now it doesn't really matter which one you choose. You can easily switch later. NOTE: Youcanmineintwoways.Solominingiswhereyouminebyyourself.Whenyoufindablockyougetallthereward.Poolminingiswhenyouteamupwithotherminerstoworkonthesameblocktogether.Thismakesitmorelikelythatyou'llfindablock,butyouwon'tgetallofit,you'llhavetosplititupwithothersaccordingtoyourshareofthework.Poolminingisrecommendedbecauseitgivesyoufrequentpayouts,becauseyoufindmoreblocks.Thelargerthepoolyoujoin,themorefrequentthepayouts,butthesmallertherewardyouget. Overalongperiodoftimethedifferencebetweenpoolandsolomininggoesaway, butifyousolomineitmightbemonthsbeforeyougetanycoins.
Step two: Set up pool account
The pool you chose should have a getting started page. Read it and follow the instructions. Instructions vary but the general idea is:
Create an account
Create a worker under the account
Grab the mining URL (usually on the getting started page)
Setup your cash out options in your account settings by entering one of your wallet's receiving addresses
When you're done with this, you'll need to know:
Your account, worker name, and worker password
The mining (stratum) URL (usually the pool's URL followed by a port)
Step three: Download mining software
For best performance you'll need the right mining software.
Create a text file in the same folder as your miner application. Inside, put the command you'll be running (remove brackets). For AMD it's cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://: -u -p For Nvidia it's cudaminer.exe -o stratum+tcp://: -O : Substitute the right stuff in for the placeholders. Then on the next line of the text file type pause. This will let you see any errors that you get. Then save the file with any name you want, as long as the file extension is .bat. For example mine_serverName.bat.
Step five: Launch your miner
Just open the .bat file and a command line window should pop up, letting you know that the miner is starting. Once it starts, it should print out your hash rate. If you now go to the pool website, the dashboard should start showing your hashrate. At first it'll be lower than what it says in the miner, but that's because the dashboard is taking a 5 minute average. It'll catch up soon enough. NOTE: Anormalhashrateisbetween50Kh/suptoeven1Mh/sdependingonyourGPU.
You're now mining Dogecoins
That's it, nothing more to it.
CPU mining isn't really recommended, because you'll be spending a lot on more on power than you'd make from mining Dogecoin. You could better spend that money on buying Dogecoin by trading. But if you have free electricity and want to try it out, check out this informative forum post.
Trading has been difficult so far, but Dogecoin just got added to a few new exchanges. If you don't have a giant mining rig, this is probably the best way to get 100k or more dogecoins at the moment. I'll write up a more complete guide, but for now check out these sites:
Faucets are sites that give out free coins. Usually a site will give out somewhere between 1 and 100 Dogecoin. Every site has its own time limits, but usually you can only receive coins once every few hours, or in some cases, days. It's a great way to get started. All you do is copy your address from the receive section of your wallet and enter it on some faucet sites. Check out /dogecoinfaucets for more. If you go to each site on there you might end up with a couple hundred Dogecoin!
This method is pretty straightforward. Post your receiving address, and ask for some coins. Such poor shibe. The only catch is, don't do it here! Please go to /dogecoinbeg.
Other redditors can give you Dogecoin by summoning the tip bot, something like this: +dogetipbot 5 doge This might happen if you make a good post, or someone just wants to give out some coins. Once you receive a tip you have to accept it in a few days or else it'll get returned. Do this by following the instructions on the message you receive in your inbox. You reply to the bot with "+accept". Commands go in the message body. Once you do that, the bot will create a tipping address for you, and you can use the links in the message you receive to see your info, withdraw coins to your dogecoin-qt wallet, see your history, and a bunch of other stuff. As a bonus, so_doge_tip has a feature where you can get some Dogecoins to start with in exchange for how much karma you have. To do this, send the message "+redeem DOGE" to so_doge_tip. You'll need to create a tipping account if you don't have one. If you want to create a tipping account without ever being tipped first, message either of the bots with "+register" and an address will be created for you.

Cranes for top-five coins by capitalization https://preview.redd.it/yjnv3hvjcnn11.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f23b9a5c863427ccf70dd3928a4e3264245b64d Crypto-currency cranes are resources that pay coins in exchange for visiting, clicking, entering captcha and other actions. Now the network has several types of such cranes. The first with the accelerated withdrawal of funds for purses, and the second with the withdrawal of the earned coins only after a considerable amount of money has accumulated on the account. The first type of crane is best used, as they reduce the risk of time resources being spent on fraudulent structures. Also you need to find a bitcoin-crane with instant withdrawal of money for wallets. This criterion corresponds to the resource freebitco.in. It has been functioning for more than five years and is visited by tens of millions users. Before you start working with it, you need to login. The work is done on the PC where the registration took place. User needs to solve the captcha. Each Satoshi received depends on the numbers shown arbitrarily. There is another crane - Ethereum-faucet.org. It is used to assemble the ether. It also has a panel where the captcha is solved. Minimum Ethereum-faucet is 0,00000001 ETH and it is carried out on the rotator Faucethub.io. Faucethub is a collector of coins from cranes. Such rotators allow you to combine the withdrawal of money immediately from a number of cranes. They have simple and convenient referral programs that make it easier to work. The referral program is associated with all the cranes connected to it. To start working, you need to enter the wallet data, where the crypto coins will arrive. However, you can use the rotator only if the collection of crypto currency is carried out at once on several resources. The network also has the Cryptomininggame service. It differs from other cranes. It can work not only with the ether, but also with Bitcoin, as well as DASH, LTC, BCH and is made in the form of a quest with many levels. On this service bonuses are paid every day, there is an exchange of currencies at a favorable rate. You can conduct currency mining and have a referral program. The funds are transferred to the rotator faucethub.io. With the help of cranes, you can not earn a lot of money. For this purpose you need to use a bot, because a person does not have time to do this. In a month you can earn more than twenty-one thousand Satoshi. This roughly corresponds to 0.00021600 bitcoins. Of course, this is not so much, but the cranes are not designed to be used to get Bitcoin for a short period of time. There are other ways and technologies for this.

Nyancoin V 1.2 Out Now! Kimoto Gravity Well Implemented! MANDATORY UPDATE by nyancoin (28 points, 28 comments)
We've come a long ways and I'm at a point where I've decided I'm going to really pursue this with everything I've got in terms of energy and devotion. I've got a prior commitment hanging over my head towards the end of this month, but once I resolve that, I'm planning on spending a couple months really digging into NYAN and seeing what I can do. So far we've just chipped away at the edges, but already we've seen some pretty impressive results. Just a brief recap of our successes first and then I'll talk about my ideas. We've gone from 1-3 satoshi to 10-30 satoshi prices. Not bad. We've got two new block explorers up in response to the previous one going down. We've got an irc channel and active community members both here and there. And we've got me, the crazy bastard who's locked up 25% of the available supply and is planning to do everything he can to build up NYAN to its proper greatness, and got tipnyan going and did a major giveaway with it. Oh, and we survived a dump of ~10% of the available supply quite comfortably. Probably other stuff I'm forgetting about right now. So, what next? Well, a lot of stuff. This is just a huge dump of ideas for discussion and inspiration. It's not necessarily ordered, although I'll try to have it go roughly from simplest to most complex. These are by no means promises or guarantees. This is just stuff I think would be cool. Some of this isn't a "implement this", it's more of a blog post prompt or general concept.
Faucet - often requested, should be pretty basic
Wheel - easy enough; various nyan gambling would be interesting; it does raise some questions which will need to be considered
Updating the client, by first porting the latest Bitcoin release to a generic ScryptCoin implementation (or find a Scrypt-based coin which is up-to-date and suitable; is DOGE still Scrypt or did they switch when they rebased onto Bitcoin?) and then porting that to NYAN, so we have all the latest updates. Document this process. Release new binaries. Document the Windows build process in particular (doesn't seem to be documentation in the bitcoin repo).
NYANshift - shapeshift concept for NYAN. Support NYAN <=> DOGE to start.
Bounties - post some bounties for various important things; Nyancoin graphics / memes are huge here
Mobile apps - wallets for all major platforms is obviously the biggest step here, but additional nyan presence would be good too
Games - we've got a couple; giving them some more love and making more would be good; bots are a concern, but having some way to pay out NYAN for free NYAN games would be cool
Tie-ins with other coins - DOGE is obvious, but there are also a few others (BAT, MEOW, DIME) which I think have a lot of the same advantages of being "almost-dead" coins as NYAN originally did and which make sense to encourage as related coins where people can get a million a lot cheaper to have a place to start.
Bank of NYAN - There are a lot of ideas I have here. Let me just give you one sample: NYAN certificates of deposits with decent interest rates, like 12% annual for a one-year to start out with. Now, how is it possible to pay above market rates on interest like that? Well, risky currencies always have to pay higher rates to attract deposits. But it's also because the interest is paid in NYAN, so I can afford to back an unlimited amount because of the fixed supply given my reserves. That is: I could pay a year's interest on the entire supply of NYAN which I don't control at that rate. And of course, I'm not going to have all (or probably even a majority) of the outstanding NYAN deposited with me. So there are a lot of cool things which can be done with this. Again, some issues this raises to consider (legal/accounting), but I believe this can be dealt with.
Recruit graphic design talent - we've got to get back to the shiny nyancoin memes
.nyan TLD - figure out what it takes to register with ICANN. I was inspired on this by .sucks being registered. It used to be that it was basically "be a country" to get a TLD, but that seems relaxed. coin.nyan, bank.nyan, there are a lot of cool options at that point.
We need a NYAN Council/Foundation/entity legal incorporation somewhere eventually. This raises a lot of questions. I believe I have a very good option for this, which will tie into an identity linking I'm going to do. My next post will talk more about this.
Peer exchange/list - Basically an on-going / automated version of the nyan nodes map, which will make it possible to see addresses to connect to, etc.
Going from 'almost dead' to 'survival inevitable' - this is more of a blog post idea, but this is sort of the phase we're in right now; finishing shoring up the essentials and getting to the point where we can lose anything and keep going
Going from 'survival inevitable' to 'steady growth' - Not necessarily growth purely in price, although that, but in community and tech particularly.
Going from 'steady growth' to 'spiky' - This is when we start to launch: when we're getting new buyers coming in and spiking the price. We don't have perfect stability then, but I'm glad to trade stability for growth.
NYANball - If you don't know what it is, you will. I guarantee it.
Ɲ > $ - 'Mars' goal; 3-5 years or longer? But this very idea has a lot of implications to consider. If NYAN can eventually surpass the USD, well, it'll be a very interesting world we'll be in. I consider the 'moon' target to be Ɲ > $0.01, which is certainly a stretch goal, to put it mildly. But it's these sort of dreams which inspire me to work on this project.
MERCH! - one consideration here is that I should try to get in touch with the creator of nyancat to confirm that we're cool and I expect that we'll need to make sure any merchandise is nyancoin and not nyancat to avoid infringing; make stickers, etc. and promote /nyancoins
Buying DOGE to back NYAN - in order to back 1Ɲ >= 1Đ, it's helpful to have a reserve of DOGE ready to buy NYAN. Of course, current market prices don't support 1Ɲ >= 1Đ, but I expect we'll get there again, and I expect DOGE and NYAN to be an increasingly active trade pair.
Using UNO to back NYAN - I'm not exactly sure what exactly this implies apart from making bids in UNO for NYAN. I've got a bunch of UNO (420) and don't necessarily want to keep holding it, so this would be a good use.
The Miracle of NYAN - blog post + general theme; so far what we've done can be seen as a blip; as we keep going, the incredible recovery will be one of the core strengths for us to talk about. It's the resiliency and determination and ultimate vindication. Everyone loves this trope. Well, perhaps apart from some haters, but haters gunna hate.
Rainbow log charts - this just came to me; wasn't on my main list. But now that it's occurred to me...yes, we need this. Graphing NYAN is a little insane. Sort of a U shape, lol.
"Radio" + TV programs / channel - obviously it'll take a long time before this a 24/7/365 thing, but the idea is like a DOGE/etc coverage from a NYAN perspective
ethics of NYAN - working on developing explicit standards beyond simply getting rich; looking at "virtuous circle" (positive feedback) effects from doing good things and not doing bad things; my commitment to disclosing my holdings and intentions is a part of this. We want to be totally up-front and honest in all things.
NYANworth - Look up the Goldworth radio ads; parody ads based on these sort of things for NYAN
Need to be able to buy alpaca socks with NYAN - because that's a major milestone for cryptocurrencies. Use NYANshift + a BTC alpaca sock provider for this, and have it be a demonstration of skinning.
NYANcon! - just a small get-together of NYAN supporters, rather than something big to flop. But it would be cool to have a meet-up.
online marketing - paid with NYAN? NYAN-based ad network? "Doublenyan"?
NYANVPS - more on this later; not saying it's an imminent possibility, just that my next post will tie into this idea in part
PayNYAN - billing/payment software, integrated so payment can be accepted in NYAN or other coins and automatically converted (possibly backed by NYANshift)
wallet-integrated pay in "any" currency - this would be a pretty damn sweet feature
"From Worst to First" - I highly recommend reading this book. Basically: do things right. People love this story. This is the "Miracle of NYAN" concept; as we keep getting things right and rebuilding, we build an attractive track record.
NYAN:gold analogy - All of the "de-dollarizing" future, hedge with gold types of appeals, but with NYAN. This seems like a massive stretch at this point, and it is, but we should build a track record of outperforming all other assets ultimately. That is the highest possible goal. Much as I normally don't like the expression, this is one of those "shoot for the moon, even if you miss you'll land among the stars" types of situations.
long-term - This is about building up GENERATIONAL wealth; we're not talking about the typical cryptocurrency "long-term" of a few months or a year. We're talking about decades and centuries that NYAN should last. This perspective is critical for building value.
'beginners' coin' - We need to make it easier and easier to get started. Ultimately, a person should be able to go through a Web 2.0 (or whatever we're on now), cutesy intro where they don't need tech knowledge to have an account with, say, 1000 coins to start.
DOCUMENTATION - teach BTC through NYAN. We should review and expand upon BTC core documentation. There is always a need for more and better documentation. This is all aspects, from end-user to core developer.
all-for-one - Cryptocoins work or they don't. We can try to outperform, but it's still largely a matter of everyone working together well or failing in my opinion.
how to beat BTC in long-term price growth - blog post as well as theme; goals for how to achieve this: faster iterations & innovation (we should ultimately be contributing upstream rather than just porting/forking everything), easier starting, no external attacks (we are our own "buttcoin"), humble, cute, non-threatening and high-performing, and ultimately, need a higher demand to buy versus lower supply to sell of course. Having a larger proportion of hodling and such.
NYAN central bank? - not really sure what this concept would be for, but sort of the NYAN Council type of idea but with an OPEC type of concept
NYAN Secret Society - ooops, not secret now. But this seems cool
NYAN religion ! - this seems like a brilliant idea to me. Also, rituals include pot brownies + milk. Because cultcoins are STRONK. See also: BOB
Get a country to accept NYAN as legal tender - okay, obviously it'll be a micronation or unrecognized or whatever, but it'd be a major step regardless and actually making it viable would be badass; needs a higher valuation of course
NYAN dark? - not a new coin, but figure out a way to use NYAN anonymously? shift into DASH or DOGED or something?
How to deal with legality questions - increasingly important as value grows; a lot of this will depend on the country; more on this in the next post
Trade sites - NYAN auctions; NYANlist, etc. As usual, prices listed in NYAN, but convertible payments (so can be paid in BTC and seller gets NYAN, or even can be done in reverse).
"Protect your paycheck with the power of NYAN" - building buyside; pitch NYAN as a cross between a hedge and a lotto ticket.
Politics? NYAN party? Advocates ending the fed and converting legal tender to NYAN. Basically a joke party, but still, doing campaigning would be good promotion and allows some points to be raised potentially. Also, like this project in general, good learning experience. Attempting to get on a ballet is always a good task.
NYAN - love-child of BTC, LTC, DOGE and buttcoin. - this probably doesn't deserve to be elevated to this list but I found it an amusing thought
Elected council? - how would voting rights work? Only thing I can think is a NYAN minimum, and unfortunately, that would seem to be basically the rich get more votes, since they could use multiple identities
Back to the NYAN Community Development Council - I've been meaning to get back to this; basically I need to nominate a bunch of you who have been doing cool stuff and basically declare this into existence
Rent for NYAN - I'll be posting more about this later. Basically, if you happen to have a spare room with an outlet and internet connection, and you wish to get NYAN and support NYAN, talk to me. ;-)
trading using NYAN - get NYAN without fiat and give value to NYAN holders
NYAN support - we've started with this in this forum, but it would be sweet to actually build a professional-style support system for NYAN where people can submit tickets, etc., and have questions answered
virtual nation - already have the currency; constitution? army? air force?
NYAN Financial Times - reporting financial news from a nyan perspective
NYAN connoisseur - all sorts of awesome nyan; something reflecting the cultured tastes of a Ɲekonaut
NYAN culture - building a community taste on 'good things', like cats (dogs are okay too); candy; computers; based on conversation today on IRC, it appears that an appreciation for sexy female British voices is also part of NYAN culture
NYAN for real estate? - requires a much, much larger market. We're going to need $10M+ minimum to consider this really I think.
NYAN stock exchange? - the nation this is based in is going to be critical
Find 'NYAN-friendly' countries - basically libertarian enough to support banking etc. Locate NYAN entities on servers in these countries.
Additional exchanges for NYAN - create our own exchange???
NYAN travel packages - NYANcon types of things
Borrow from FSM - religious worship here includes hodling
"NYAN is a poptart-based lovefest." - self-explanatory
NYANlife - all-expenses included luxury living in
Fix timeout on tipnyan - this is a minor thing I've had outstanding for too long; get to it finally
Liberté, égalité, fraternité (liberty, equality, brotherhood) - National motto of France, but very appropriate for NYAN I think; represents an overall ethic. I think it makes sense for NYAN to support a distilled version of the core philosophy originally behind BTC and to hold onto it (like libertarian principles generally).
NYAN as part of a retirement plan - Advocate something like 1% exposure to NYAN as a crazy hedge / lotto. The thing about its massive growth potential is that the 1% can end up doing better than all of the rest of it, and yet losing 1% completely wouldn't be a significant impact.

ForumCoin offers instant paying faucets for a variety of cryptocoins, this post is about their BitCoin faucets. ForumCoin currently offers two types of bonuses, a referral bonus (varies by faucet) currently the BitCoin faucets are 20% of what your referrals claim, and a short link bonus. The short link bonus will double (or more) your claim amount every time you use it. You simply click the short link available on each faucet, solve the captcha and you'll be redirected back to the faucet with your bonus enabled. At the time of posting you can instantly claim 6+ Satoshi every 5 minutes without bonuses by claiming from these 2 faucets! Firstly, ForumCoin requires a Faucethub account to claim so if you don't already have a Faucethub account head over to http://faucethub.io/28829248 to signup. After you've created your account be sure to link your Bitcoin address to your Faucethub account. Claiming is simple, just enter your linked address, answer the security question, and solve the anti-bot, then click "Get Reward!" Boom! Claims are instantly paid out to your Faucethub account. Ok, I don't care that much about moderation. To begin with, the moderators get to have the kind of community they want. That's how that works. If they don't want your content, you should take it elsewhere. That said, this community should probably start having a discussion about what they want, and how they want it to look. So, I thought I would give a little bit of advice to the mods, should they choose to accept it, and all of you out in Bitcoinlandia can take it for what it's worth because... well... this is a community of whiney little babies, and I can't imagine how hard it must be to not listen to the constant complaining. I, myself, am regularly moderated, which I usually face by sending a quick message off to a mod or two. Frankly, I don't care that much if I'm moderated, but I do find moderation ironic in a world filled with anarchists. Now, I'm often called a bully and a troll. They are distinctions I'm fine with. The only thing I really care about is truth, and I hate when people show up here and try to convince the community of things that are untrue. When I started in Bitcoin I was much younger and much more naive. I remember negotiating to purchase bitcoins with Paypal with people forever ago, or free Bitcoins that were given out of faucets. I remember Bitcoinica and the weird failure. I remember the first edition of Bitcoin Magazine. I remember when [email protected] was asking for money, and I watched as people gave it to him. The forums were abuzz with rumors that he was investing in dark markets, and that's how his returns were so incredible. I didn't know enough then. I remember sitting there watching it and thinking, "how can you know that it's a ponzi" as others accused him loudly of running an obvious scheme. I remember when Matthew N. Wright made a bet with the community of (I believe) 10,000 Bitcoins that it Pirate would pay, and when that time passed, Matthew withdrew his bet, and told everyone he was teaching them a lesson. He was drummed out of the community, gave up his equity in Bitcoin magazine and the other dozen projects he was a part of. I remember when bitinstant came about and saved us all so much time, as we had to go to our local drug store and pick up the weird blue phone. An Indian would pick up and you would feed him a random set of numbers. Then suddenly, a few hours/days/indeterminate amount of time later, money would show up at Mt. Gox. I remember TradeFortress, and the Bruce Wagner ordeal, and dozens and dozens and dozens of other weird scams or things that looked like scams. I remember when mining started and people began bilking investors out of mining contract profits. And I remember getting scammed myself numerous times. And always, scammers feed on one thing: your personal greed. I was taken for many many Bitcoin by TradeFortress when he offered a Bitcoin index fund. I thought I was being reasonable when I put my money into the slow-growth fund. The returns that were promised were far less than all the other scams, what could go wrong? In a world where people were promising to double your money every month, TF promised only that he would double it every year or so. Reasonable, right? When I went to withdraw my funds... they weren't there. I didn't know then what I know now. I remember sitting in the audience at the first North American Bitcoin conference put on by Pumper Moe Levin. By that time, I'd become fairly sensitive to scammers in the space, though I'm still surprised by their brazenness. I even tweeted about one scam that was pitching shares in an oil drilling company https://twitter.com/junseth/status/427102576824582144. It was there that I saw Neo&Bee stand in front of a packed room and explain their plan to bring freedom and wonder to the people of Greece. I remember feeling uneasy about the polish of the pitch. It looked great, but I didn't understand a goddamn thing they said. I didn't trust my gut. Months later, millions had been stolen, and the CEO was flaunting his newfound wealth on Facebook as he took pictures of himself in nice cars. All of us sat there and watched that happen. And since then, I have heard dozens of others who were in the audience tell me that they also were as uneasy as I was about the Neo&Bee presentation. None of us said anything because we are blinded by our desire for this to work. After Neo&Bee, I promised myself I would never let something that sat uneasy rest without asking probative questions. I was called a troll for attacking bitcoin-trader.biz when bitcoin moderator u/SeansOutpost took their money as the main sponsor of Coins in the Kingdom. They were an obvious ponzi, and he let them show up to try to bilk the community. That's fine. I'm happy to let Sean profit, in spite of himself. It speaks poorly of his character and makes me know that he will put his own desire for popularity or success or whatever the fuck it is ahead of the wellbeing of those he is hosting. But in lieu of my promise, I camped myself at the Bitcoin-trader.biz table for the remainder of the weekend, and explained to everyone who spoke with the man and woman behind the table (themselves investors in the ponzi) why it was an obvious scam. "We do arbitrage to make 1% per day," the man behind the table would say. They had a live feed of all the arbitrage that they said they were doing. There is a simple investment mindtrick called the rule of 72. Basically, if someone is giving you a percentage return, you can figure out how long it will take to double your money. You divide 72 by the percentage, but make sure to keep the units the same. So at 1% per day, they are promising a doubling of your money every 72 days, or 5x per year. So a quick extrapolation would mean that if you put $10 in on day one, 365 days later, you would be able to pull out $320 and 730 days later (2 years) you'd have earned a cool $10k. Three years in, if you invested $10, you'd have earned over $300k. Does that sound reasonable to you? "So what you're telling me is that if I give you $10 today, in 3 years, you'll give me over $300,000?" "No, that's not what I said," the guy manning the booth told me. "I told you 1% per day." So I did the math for him, which he scoffed at, but which seemed convincing enough to the people thinking of investing. Those two threatened to sue me and they went back to Canada, where they emailed the head of the Bitcoin-trader.biz group. They pressed him for an audit after my so-called trolling, and then a week and a half later, he disappeared with their money and a few million dollars more. In the aftermath, I had a call with the man behind the booth. He said something like, "I thought that the guy who was standing at our booth all weekend was trolling us, but when the fund closed, I realized he knew something we didn't." Here's the thing, probative questions are uncomfortable. I have been around these parts pretty long, and I'm incredibly familiar with the technology for a guy who doesn't know a lick about comp-sci. You have seen my memes batted about, and you may have even used them yourself in spite of hating me. You may listen to Bitcoin Uncensored even though you hate the Bitcoin gossip. You might have even accidentally been subject to my ire in a debate you accidentally got into with me. The reality is, I create a huge amount of the content that Bitcoiners consume. Others like u/eragmus, u/btcdrak, and even u/americanpegasus are doing content and curation as well. You can hate our content, you can like our content, but the reality is that these communities are built by maybe 1% of us content creators. I enjoy the childish requests for no moderation, because behind the curtain, most of you will run like a child to any of the many moderators here and tell on people. The Open Bazaar team just did it to me, and I got warning from moderator u/Aussiehash whom I told to fuck off. What everyone really means when they say they don't like censorship, is that they don't like censorship of the content they want to consume. The instant they are offended, they want that content censored. Words like troll are used against people whose content you don't like, hijacking posts is the word used for the person creating the most content in a post. Recently, Andreas Antonopoulos (despite being on the front page lamenting the censorship) blocked me on Twitter because Tatianna Moroz told him I'm a sexist. Again, fine, but ironic considering the claim that one is against censorship carte blanche. Adam Levine censored me while trying to prove that he's completely against censorship. Me, I don't care about censorship. Community's are built through some kind of pruning. The kind of community I like is one that self-polices and makes prunes itself much like Wikipedia. Those that don't want to be a part of it, don't have to be, and those that want to be a part of it choose themselves to participate. Censorers are always vilified. So I don't do it. I don't do it at all. So the great question is not whether you should censor, but who gets to decide who gets to censor. So here's my proposal. Everyone, stick around bitcoin. It's a great place, and u/theymos has done a pretty darn good job of not fucking shit up. Do I agree with his current moderation decisions? I wouldn't have done what he did. But I don't think this is a moral question. On the other end, I have bitcoinarchy. I have set it up, me and u/brighton36 will be the only moderators. And our only promise is that we won't moderate anything. And we have a history of being completely unrelenting in our unwillingness to censor. So now you can't say dick. You can hate me, you can love me, but if what you are ACTUALLY looking for is a uncensored forum, then join my subreddit. Somehow, I'm willing to bet that most of you are looking for a place that does the kind of censorship you like, and not no censorship. Does that solve everybody's problem? u/ThePiachu, u/rbitcoin-bot, u/colsatre, u/StarMaged, u/DotGaming, u/BashCo, u/frankenmint, u/gruez, u/arthurbouquet, u/DigitalGoose, u/MineForeman, u/Camdien

_trendspotter at /goodcoin brought up an evaluation we can use to at least measure, rate, or review cryptocurrency based on how good they are. Here at scamcoin I think we should come up the evaluation on how BAD these guys are, just the opposite of his scale. I suggest you should use this guide also as a reference when you are looking to INVEST in a cryptocurrency. If you guys have suggestions/ideas feel free to bring it up. It is no way being objective but at least we can try. Power to the people. The problem I still trying to sort out is to weight some features properly: Anyway, the proposal Scammy Scale Rating with simple Yes or No: 1) NOT de-centralize & Not open source 2) No open-source at the release 3) "Public offering" period where one has to pay to mine early 4) No fair launch announcement, unreasonable pre-mine and/or any insta-mine 5) Extremely low starting difficulty 6) No adoption among merchants/vendors/region/country. 7) No trading at big exchanges (e.g. not on BTC-e) 8) Not offer any new feature. Clonecoins or Litecoin forking 9) Bad developer supports, lack of community or forum 10) Releasing bad software that impedes certain users from using/mining the coin. Or "faulty" start, "nodes" problem 11) Slow transaction or confirmation time 12) Short block time when mining 13) Inflated to billion of shares/coins or unreasonable supplies 14) Pseudo mumbo jumbo descriptions of the cryptocurrency 15) Poor official website, hastily done 16) No anonymity support (no Zerocoin implementation) 17) Weak security, vulnerable to 51% attack (No POS or Proof of Stake) 18) Aggressive marketing campaign, hijacking forums and threads, tons of giveaways and faucets 19) Bloat future blockchain, e.g. 2GB-60-100GB wallet you have to update even though your wallet has 2 ABC coin. 20) Weak to ASIC,GPU,FPGA miners, BotNet, or does not give everyone at least a fair chance to mine 21) Reversible transaction -- Not sure if I should leave this out 22) Low mining profitability (vs mining Bitcoin) 23) Designed to be inflationary nature 24) No interest rate of earning coin per year 25) No Multi-hashing algorithms 26) Recent release 27) Pump and dump announcements (Twitter, Facebook, subreddits or forums) associated with said cryptocurrency 28) "Rebooting" the coin, or "coin makeover" to make it fair mining/distribution again 29) Shady developers' history and/or shady major fund backers' history/intention 30) No trendsetter or no noise around the web. Use Google Trend as a way to monitor buzzes. Example:http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=quark%20coin%2C%20bitcoin&cmpt=q 31) Not much liquidity and being dependent. How dependent of that alt-coin to that of Bitcoin? Meaning, if Bitcoin goes down 20% in value, will it also dip 20% or more? 32) Unknown or less coins' volume/share percentage jumped through the roof while other known coins have modest or small gain. Example: SexCoin jumped 1200% in a single day while Bitcoin gained 3.8% 33) "Pay first, deliver product [Bitcoin 2.0] later" - essentially investors are convinced they have to pay first in USD/bitcoin because they are promised by the developers/company to have an "EARLY START" or "EARLY SHARES" or "PRE-SHARES" on the best next-generation "Bitcoin 2.0" coin that will make Bitcoin obsolete and will be the next biggest thing in the universe. Except for the part where "the biggest thing in the universe" is nowhere to be seen. 34) Interoperability 35) Purely Proof-of-Stake (POS) coins We then can further breakdown and give weigh point to each feature and start ranking them. For example: CrappyCoin : 10 yes, 15 No. A simple solution is each Yes = 1 point and each No = 0 point. However, subjectively some features should be weight more than others. I should point how to merchant adoption and trading/buy/sell at big exchanges, multi-hashing and fair mining for everyone should be scored higher. It goes hand-in-hand with its release date. Feel free to discuss.
