2019 Crypto News Reviews

2019 Crypto News Reviews

https://preview.redd.it/o62demiyuq741.png?width=1472&format=png&auto=webp&s=7408a7f5efff95013292fdc25379dd642825d10f
As the end of 2019 draws closure, we are looking back at the most influential news items for the blockchain sector.

5–7 January

ETC 51% attack, a nightmare for small altcoins
As a top 20 crypto asset, Ethereum Classic is not seen as an easy target for a 51 percent attack, and yet in early January, its blockchain was successfully hijacked for several days with estimated losses of $1.1 million. This attack has caused many people to panic, as the small PoW consensus coins are vulnerable to 51 attacks. Luckily ETC has not been stunned by the 51 attack, after a short fall in prices, ETC quickly created a new record of the highest price.

16 January

The only not cool thing about Grin coin is its price
Grin, with the “three nada” label-no ICO, no pre-digging, and no investors, was officially launched on 16 January. “Bitcoin 2.0”, “super privacy coins”… the cryptocurrency community was willing to give it all the good crowns. After the launch of its main network, the price of Grin coin has jumped up and down as was expected. Although Grin has experienced some bad luck as the dropout of its core developer Gary, by launching of the Asic mining machine and the Grin foundation receiving 50 bitcoin donations, this unique project is still motivated to move forward.

February

Lightning Network passed the torch all around the world and it is only a beginning
On January 19, 2019, Bitcoinist Hodlonaut began a social experiment dubbed “Lightning Torch” to test the capabilities and UX experience of the Lightning Network. In total, the torch has been a great success. Many people believe that 2019 was the year, when the Lightning Network shined. However, its security and the ease of use were frequently challenged. Not long ago, the Bitfinex exchange announced support for Lightning Network deposits and withdrawals. This is a small step for the exchange but definitely a big step for the Lightning Network.

April

USDT is going to die? Nope, it is still safe and sound
New York’s top cop accused USDT’s issuer of participating in a cover-up to hide the loss of about $850 million in client and corporate funds. People have revived doubts about Tether’s claim that each of its so-called stable coins is backed by $1 of assets — a feature that gives the coins a central role in crypto markets around the world. This has made many investors switch their boats to PAX and TUSD. But up to now, dapptotal data shows that USDT still has about 81% market share.

4 June

Justin stood Warren Buffett out
Justin, Sun Yuchen, officially announced himself the winner of the charity lunch with Warren Buffett, chairman of the holding company Berkshire Hathaway, submitting a record $4.57 million on June, 4. This news has gone viral in China, making Sun a hot topic online. However, because of coming down with kidney stones, Sun decided to postponed this meal, which has made Sun again cover the headlines of the international news media.

18 June

Facebook unveils Libra White Paper
Libra was officially announced by Facebook and 27 global industry giants on June 18, 2019. With such a global attention, Libra has faced strict regulations all around the world and many global central banks have started working on digital currencies, countering Libra.
Over the past six months, after being abandoned by few of its core members of the association, Libra was forced to slow down its pace. However, worth mentioning, because of Libra, blockchain has become the focus of global attention in 2019.

1 July

PlusToken may be driving down the price of Bitcoin
In July, Chinese media reported that the PlusToken scam attracted over 3 billion worth of cryptocurrency. Six individuals connected to PlusToken were arrested in June. The stolen funds have continued to move through wallets and be cashed out through the independent OTC brokers operating mostly on the Huobi platform. It has been speculated that PlusToken sccammers didn’t just steal $2+ billion worth of cryptocurrency. They may also be driving down the price of bitcoin.

5 August

The second halving of Litecoin
Litecoin (LTC) has experienced an event that is designated to happen once in four years: the halving of the block rewards. On Aug. 5, 2019, Litecoin rewards for producing a block were halved from 25 LTC to 12.5 LTC. A co-founder of one of the largest mining pools, F2Pool, stated on Weibo that, given the electricity costs of 0.26 yuan ($0.037) per kilowatt per hour, some mining rigs like L3+ could close their business right away.

23 September

Bakkt isn’t the chosen one, but it is growing to be the one
On September 23, silver-spoon-born Bakkt was officially launched. Specialists believed that it is likely to allow more investors and funds to enter the cryptocurrency industry. However, the platform has faced a great failure and only 72 bitcoins were traded on the first day. In early December, its daily transaction volume has quietly climbed to $ 37 million from only 72 bitcoins. Although the data is still relatively small compared to the top exchanges, being a certified platform by the regulatory body helps a lot. Through the continues development, Bakkt may become the influential platform for the Bitcoin pricing power, which will empower the platform with the super power.

25 October

Xi Jinping Urges Accelerated Blockchain Technology Adoption in China
China’s President Xi Jinping has called for the country to accelerate its adoption of blockchain technologies as a core for innovation. President Xi made the comments at a Politburo Committee session on blockchain technology trends on Oct. 24, stressing that the implementation of integrated blockchain technologies is key in promoting technological innovation and transforming industries. The next day after Politburo meeting, the price of Bitcoin soared 42% to $10,500- hitting the biggest daily gain since 2011.

29 October

Chinese cryptomining giant Bitmain’s civil war breaks into open
On 29 October, the Bitmain co-founder Wu Jihan returned to the company after an absence and replaced Mr Zhan’s name on the company’s registration documents with his own. Mr Wu threatened employees with punishment if they continued to meet or communicate with Mr Zhan or carry out any of his instructions. In the past two months, Wu Jihan offered three tempting and determined mining axes: installment payments, option hedging, and joint mining.

21 November

The call of future-Canaan is listed on NASDAQ
On November 21, Canaan was listed in NASDAQ, commemorating the first share of the blockchain going public. The listing of Canaan was almost the biggest event in the blockchain industry in November. Unfortunately, CAN broke after a short rise of 40%, falling to $4.65 up to now, reaching half of its listed price. However, worth mentioning is that listing of Canaan represents that the traditional financial world has thrown an olive branch on blockchain concept stocks, marking the beginning of the long way to go.

QuarkChain Monthly AMA Summary-02/22/2020

QuarkChain Monthly AMA Summary-02/22/2020

https://preview.redd.it/nscgafxibck41.png?width=2152&format=png&auto=webp&s=fbceb8e21020811bea5545b82e65bc5eeac5e420
QuarkChain holds a monthly AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Telegram/Wechat groups on Saturday at 7–8 PM PST. This is the summary for February AMA. We welcome any questions, comments, and suggestions.
Q1: The Bitcoin halving is taking place this year. How do you expect this to affect the entire blockchain industry? What role will QuarkChain play in the industry?
The Bitcoin halving is a major event in 2020 and we believe this event may have significant impacts.
Technically speaking, this means every block reward is reduced from 12.5 BTC to 6.25 BTC, and the inflation rate is also halved.
As a result, firstly, the inflation rate will be below 2%, which means the rate is close to that of gold. Secondly, the selling power from miners is also halved. While as cryptocurrency and blockchain become more popular, more people may be more likely to own BTC.
From the perspective of the market, BTC has become a hedging asset against risks since there are not many global assets that have a good story as well as good liquidity. There are two main factors influencing the price of BTC: namely the manufacturer of mining machines and the Wall Street. As long as selling mining machines is still making a profit while the global economy is still thriving decently, the value of BTC will maintain its level. So I think that the market will view the halving this time around in a more optimistic light.
BTC is rather out of sync with other blockchain projects because its financial nature far outstrips its technical nature. We can compare BTC to gold while other projects are more comparable to technology companies who focus on technological applications and innovations.
Another question is what halving signifies for our QuarkChain team. Since 2018, QuarkChain has been focused on inventing a faster and more convenient public chain. Since the launch of mainnet, our product has evolved to become a framework like Polkadot and Cosmos that enable launching a chain with one click and provide cross-chain framework consensus. During our Stanford 2020 meeting last week, we further proposed the idea of a “quark family” whereby one can adopt this sharding layer framework on public chains. If this concept is applied to consortium blockchain, then it becomes “quark-union.” Such framework can be applied in other scenarios and interoperate for other use cases and provide a plethora of choices for users, which is our target goal this year.
In the middle of the year, we will announce the next product developed specifically for this framework, which functions like Polkadot’s Substrate framework that allows developers to build products as parachains. Please follow us to learn more!
In general, I think this is really good news for the whole cryptocurrency world!

Q2: The Chinese market pays more attention to the consortium blockchain. Will this affect QuarkChain? Will the team consider joining the consortium blockchain?
One of our goals is to broadcast our QuarkChain technologies to more people around the world, and we are happy to see that not only can our technology be applied to the public chain space, but also to the consortium blockchain space!!
Secondly, it is also natural to extend the public chain technology to the consortium one, where Ethereum has EEA, and JP Morgan is also working on Quorum, which is the consortium version of geth.
With the Chinese government’s support of this domain, I think it is a very good opportunity for QuarkChain to participate in the market and meet the needs in the consortium blockchain space. We will soon announce the new products in the area soon!
Q3: The QuarkChain team attended the Stanford Blockchain Conference recently. Are there any differences between the direction of exploration in 2020 and in 2019? Did you find any new or interesting ideas?
A lot of interesting things happened during the Stanford Blockchain Conference. I also discussed with several people, including Vitalk and Professor David Tse about their works. We discussed some details about their proposal in the extreme case such as network partition and asked more details in how Lamport’s BFT algorithm’s relationship with his proposal.
First of all, I found there is a rapidly rising interest from academia to enter into the blockchain space, including professors from renowned universities such as Stanford, UIUC, and Cornell.
Secondly, I found more and more people are taking serious considerations into practical problems such as scalability and security. For example, Vitalik gave a talk about 51% attack and how to avoid that; people are working on both vertical and horizontal scalability. Of course, Facebook Libra also presented their blockchain.
We are watching these technologies closely and are looking forward to seeing its development, which will guide our future growth as well!
Q4: QKC held a meetup yesterday and you talked about what the future of blockchain looks like and topics related to business. Can you give us a brief summary about the discussion? How can QuarkChain be applied in the real world? Any use cases?
We delivered a speech titled “What The Future Blockchain Looks Like to Empower Business.” Looking back, the early days of blockchains were chasing after pure technical breakthroughs with little considerations for practical business needs. This is related to what we talked about also at the year-end review: after TPS, what else can blockchains propose?
One of the big trends that we see is that, typical major business applications rely on both consortium blockchain and public chains. Even for Facebook Libra, it starts with consortium blockchain and then will move onto public chains. From a business perspective, the space is looking for a more comprehensive solution that allows seamless communication between consortium blockchain and public chains altogether.
The Boson consensus is the paper we published during the world-class 2019 IEEE conference. It is the sharding infrastructure framework that we have been referring to since day 1, which is analogous to the Substrate framework from Polkadot. We have applied this framework to implement QuarkChain, as you are all familiar with it by now.
We are now applying the same framework onto consortium blockchain to allow different enterprises to define different chains based on their own business requirements and also create plug-ins to interact with other chains such as IBM Hyperledger, Ant Financial blockchain, WeBank, and so on.
With the great efforts of our BD team, we are working on some use cases with our important partners. One direction we believe is to speed up financial processing using blockchain in the enterprise space. For instance, with immunity and transparency, we could facilitate regulated financing and circulation of assets more easily. Imagine DeFi in consortium!
As I mentioned before, we are building the consortium version of QuarkChain, and actually, the first version of the product is almost ready and is under testing.
Q5: What does your roadmap for 2020 look like? Name some important milestones you hope to achieve. What are the major developments lined up for QuarkChain this quarter?
In 2020 H1, we plan to fully support our native token to enable DeFi composability. We would like to make the token more user-friendly as well.
Actually, ETH2.0 is targeting native tokens for a while, and we also have a long conversation with ETH. While ETH2.0 is still planning and designing the feature, our goal is to fully support ETH 2.0 in 2020 — probably the first blockchain that enables all these!
For the second half of the year, we are still looking into several areas, namely privacy, heterogenous chain, and new consensus mechanism. We also would like to learn from the community to see what the best idea may be.
Please check more details here:
https://ethresear.ch/t/cross-shard-defi-composability/6268/23
https://ethresear.ch/t/moving-eth-between-shards-the-problem-statement/6597
Q6: In the past years, we all said ZIL was your biggest competitor, but the fact is we did not see too many updates from them. So who is your current strongest competitor? How do you stand out from your competition?
Actually, in this growing new area, we learned tremendously from different projects in sharding, multi-chain area: ETH2.0, Polkadot, Cosmos, and ZIL.
And for us, our idea is quite simple — to achieve our goal with using all technologies from us and also from others. We also interacted with the blockchain communities actively so that we could jointly contribute to the blockchain space. This philosophy explains why we have an active presence in different projects such as ETH and Libra.
Our technology, the Boson consensus, is the key for us to differentiate from others. Even better, the Boson consensus is designed to be flexible, and thus is able to incorporate a lot of novel ideas! To my knowledge, this flexibility can hardly be found for other blockchains. Unless other projects decide to follow us someday, I think we should have plenty of space to stand out!
Q7: What are your future plans for the developer community?
We just started our bounty program for supporting native token auction — an important part for multi-native token support. This means many dApps on ETH can be rewritten and enjoy the benefits of the multi-native tokens, and we will have demos and programs to educate the public.
Q8: QKC technology is at the forefront of the industry. What are its strategies in market expansion? How are you planning to take over more market share in 2020?
We need to acknowledge that the speculation is widespread across the entire market, similar to what was observed during the early days of the stock market. As we can see now, the era of speculation and fast money is fading away. What we observed in the US stock market for the last decade is that the out-performers are no mere speculation but outstanding technology companies who keep innovating themselves. To adapt to this shift of culture, we now align the overall marketing strategy to branding.
What this signifies is that besides telling people the acronym of QuarkChain, we should let other people know more about the details of QuarkChain and the recent updates of our team.
What we will do in the future is to share more quality in-depth contents which vary in format but are easily readable. We would like to intrigue more people by experimenting with different forms of data visualization. We also want to step onto different school campuses for technical sharing sessions and have first-hand engagement for technology enthusiasts and gain their recognition. From there, we will then carry out more public advertisements. Because of the outbreak of virus, we will develop more online activities to enable more people to participate free of physical constraints.
Q9: Why do we see less interactions from the team recently? How are the team members faring? Can you work on developing the Chinese community in 2020?
Someone messaged me offline wondering why I appeared in the group less often recently. I actually am still with QuarkChain and have been working on various projects in great depth. For example, I was lecturing MBA classes and summarized how blockchain can step out from its current bottlenecks.
Some also discovered that they were no longer able to private chat with me. As I have explained before, such a decision was made on the basis of freeing up more of my time from customer services to allow more creative thinking and R&D. I have been paying close attention to the discussion and suggestions within the group chat. I am also in consultation with Yufeng and Daisy for the latest news within the group chat as well. Our team is doing well with more technologies underway. We are landing more business applications and are shifting our marketing focus from operations to branding. We will continue to update our latest developments so stay tuned!
About the community, we aim not just to grow only the Chinese one but around the world. You may understand the idea of developing a community in a different sense than I do. As I might have mentioned before, for the past two years, blockchain was highly speculative and some projects only wished to boost the number of followers with little maintenance of the community. Since the days of speculation are gone, developing a community is no longer just counting heads but providing contents of added values and spreading the awareness of these quality contents to more people. This is also why I appeared less in the chat but have published more in-depth articles over the past few months.
Q10: What are the latest updates in terms of business developments? Who are some of your latest business partners?
Let me first talk about the potential effects of the COVID-19 outbreak. Its ramification is of global scale; interestingly, it has an accelerating effect for blockchains since people came to realize that after thrifting on big data and large-scale IT systems, these white elephants did little to present timely, effective, and accurate data. Such inefficiencies have created tremendous challenges for public administration and blockchain is the perfect solution to fill this vacuum.
When it comes to commercialization, as an early entrant, we are happy to share some initial progress with our supporters.
Firstly, related to government affairs, we have business use cases for large business enterprises and governments regarding data management, public governance, and public services.
Secondly, targeting this outbreak, we have proposed a comprehensive 2G solution using blockchain and are in close communications with the government.
Lastly, in terms of management of public assets and finance, we have made some significant attempts to manage assets that were previously overlooked and were unable for financing. Our approach may be used to create financial products for circulation.
Let me give you a concrete example in factory monitoring. During production, with the automated and trustless production of data, the discharge data from the factory will become more reliable. Environment department can then use discharge data collected from automatic devices with little worry that factories have tampered with the data for the sake of avoiding penalties.

ECB Official Says Digital Currency Could Be An Alternative To CashSpeaking at a joint conference held by the European Central Bank and the National Bank of Belgium, outgoing executive board member Benoît Cœuré said a digital currency could ensure that citizens remain able to use central bank money even if cash is eventually no longer used.He added, “A digital currency of this sort could take a variety of forms, the benefits and costs of which the ECB and other central banks are currently investigating, being mindful of their broader consequences on financial intermediation.” However, he advocated for private companies to continue their own work in the space.“But potential central bank initiatives should not discourage or crowd out private market-led solutions for fast and efficient retail payments in the euro area,” he said.
Security Firm: All UPbit Stolen Crypto Assets Transferred, First-Phase Transfers Adopted To Disturb MonitoringMonitored by Beijing-based blockchain security firm Chainsguard, at 07:09 UTC on Nov 28, the stolen assets of UPbit were transferred to three addresses in the multistep amounts of 10, 1,000, 10,000 and 100,000, respectively. At 08:55, the last transfer that involves 109,270.16 ETH was finished. In the course of transfers, 100 ETH from each address, totaled 300 ETH, flowed into the address which first received the stolen fund. In the meantime, the attacker is carrying out the transfer test by moving fractional coins.Judging from the behavior, the attacker is implementing the first phase of transfers to perturb the monitoring. Furthermore, a good deal of ETH-based fractional amounts, as well as multiple ERC20 tokens, were sent to the address held by the attacker, together contributing to interfering the trace of lost assets.

Yesterday, we saw a nice recovery wave in bitcoin above the $7,200 resistance against the US Dollar. However, BTC price struggled to climb above the $7,375 and $7,400 resistance levels.
Later, there was a minor downside correction, but the price remains well bid above the $7,000 level. As a result, there was a fresh increase above the $7,200 resistance.
Moreover, the price surpassed yesterday’s bullish flag resistance at $7,100 on the hourly chart. It opened the doors for an upside break above the key $7,375 and $7,400 resistance levels.
Bitcoin price even rallied above the $7,500 resistance and traded close to the next key resistance near $7,700 (as pointed out in the weekly forecast). A high was formed near $7,676 and the price is currently correcting lower.

Price of Bitcoin AMA: I’m Emiliano Pagnotta, Assistant Professor of Finance at Imperial College Business School. I have recently published a research paper titled ‘Bitcoin As Decentralized Money: Prices, Mining Rewards, and Network Security’. AMA! (Live at 10am ET, Wed 28 Nov 2018)

Hi Reddit! I’m Emiliano Pagnotta, Assistant Professor of Finance at Imperial College Business School. I have recently published a research paper titled ‘Bitcoin As Decentralized Money: Prices, Mining Rewards, and Network Security’.
About the paper:
In it, I address the determination and evolution of bitcoin prices and propose a simple monetary model that, unlike traditional ones, captures salient features of a decentralized network. In the framework I propose, network users forecast the transactional and resale value of bitcoin holdings and consider the risk of a network attack.
Miners contribute resources that enhance network security and compete for mining rewards received in units of the same token used by consumers. In equilibrium, the overall production of network security and the bitcoin price are jointly determined. Put simply, price does not follow the system hashrate and the hashrate does not passively follow the price either.
I develop several empirical predictions that show how the characteristics of network technologies and participants, users and miners, affect the number and dynamic stability properties of equilibria.
Regarding reward halvings, I find that the relation between bitcoin prices and the supply growth rate is not monotonic: the same price is consistent with different rates. The model’s outcomes demonstrate how intrinsic price–security feedback effects can amplify or moderate the price volatility effect of demand and supply shocks. I find rational patterns of price momentum with frequent booms and crashes and that small and large bubbles can exist in equilibrium and show how the probability of bursting decreases with the bitcoin price.
Earlier this year I published an article on the ‘Value of Bitcoin and Decentralized Network Assets’. I held an AMA on the topic, which can be seen here: https://www.reddit.com/Bitcoin/comments/8c05vhi_rbitcoin_im_emiliano_pagnotta_assistant/

BAR keeps appreciating Based on EZB Consensus Finance

On November 19, BTC fell 3%, and most other mainstream currencies also fell by more than 5%. At around 16:00 p.m. on November 21, it was a critical watershed to fall below 8000.
Bitcoin has risen sharply since December 25, but now it is slowly falling back to the price before December 25. It seems that nothing has changed. But the short-term decline expectations have been determined.
According to the Cointegraph report, its BTC quantitative price model predicts that the average price of BTC / USDT will be $8300 until it halves in May next year, but the number of people doing bottom-fishing is still small. In fact, at $8000, some weak miners have begun to lose money. They will be eager to sell out the BTC instead of waiting for the half price.
On November 22, BTC’s total network computing power was 86.44eh/s, far higher than the 40eh / s at the beginning of this year. At present, the average daily mining revenue per T computing power of BTC is 0.15 USD, which also returns to the level at the beginning of this year. The less profit ordinary users can get from participating in the mining pool. In addition, a large-scale miner in China recently landed on NASDAQ and raised $110 million. In the future, more efficient miner will be born which will lead to an increasing mining cost for users.
As the upstream of the blockchain industry, the mining circle is not so optimistic. Is there any good channel for ordinary users to participate in blockchain investment? Yes! That’s the digital currency exchange.
Currency prices fluctuate, while exchange is another area that can generate stable cash flow besides mining. EZB is an exchange with excellent ranking and trading volume in the second tier echelon. According to the ranking of Feixiaohao, EZB has led 86% exchanges in more than one year, with 24-hour trading volume of 500 million USDT and registered users of 700000.
Unlike the head exchange, which provides monopoly services to users, EZB exchange is committed to decentralized consensus finance. Users can be rewarded accordingly after mining. It is free for users to mine on the platform which aims to expand the scale of the platform and jointly embrace the future market.
On November 28, 2019, EZB exchange is expected to launch the “Member Invitation Plan”. Users can share the mining pool by joining the member invitation system. The EZB consensus pool includes exchange fees and contract derivatives volume. The more users are invited, the more mines are dug.
BAR as platform currency of EZB is a public chain currency based on DPOS. With the launch of “ Member Invitation Plan”, “Hash Contract”, “K-line Contract” and many other favorable activities, BAR has risen a lot with daily average trading volume of more than 50 million. Feixiaohao data shows that the market value of BAR has reached 64 million. With the increasing number of users participating in consensus mining in EZB, BAR will realize greater value appreciation.

Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs)

Hello!
My name is Vladimir Hovanskiy. I am a Google Adwords manager at Platinum, a business facilitator of new generation, providing STO and ICO marketing services. We already created best STO blockchain platform on the market and consulted more than 700 projects. Here’s the proof 😎
Platinum.fund
We are more than proud that we not only promote but also share our knowledge with the students of the UBAI. Here you can learn how to do security token offering and initial coin offering!
Now I want to share some cool info on the purpose and role of tokens within the Blockchain ecosystem at the ICO stage.
Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) History
Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) are a means of fundraising for the initial capital needed to get new projects off the ground within the cryptocurrency ecosystem. More often than not, Bitcoin and Ethereum, are used to buy a quantity of project tokens. However, new projects are also being launched on alternative Blockchain platforms such as NEO or WANchain, wherein the “parent” chain’s tokens will be used to fund these ICOs. Pre-launch, ICO tokens are endorsed as functional currency in the project ecosystem. After a project’s ICO, it is available on exchanges, and then the market determines the value of those tokens. The main benefit of using the ICO funding system is that it avoids the prohibitive amount of time and expense incurred by launching a startup in the conventional method, by way of Initial Public Offering (IPO). The lengthy and costly process of ensuring regulatory compliance in different jurisdictions often makes the IPO format unfeasible for small companies. Thus, the ICO method of fundraising is far more attractive as a means of crowd funding for the project. But at the same time, an ICO is certainly riskier for the investor.
It is important to note the different stages of the token sale. Token prices generally escalate the closer the token gets to its listing date. Projects often seek funding from angel investors even before the date of the private pre-sale is set, though some ICOs do go straight to pre-sale. After potential initial investment has been sought from angel investors, pre-sale begins. Usually there will be a 15–30% discount from the public sale price. The main-sale begins after the pre-sale has concluded. At that time, normal everyday crypto enthusiasts, with no connections to the team, may buy into the project at pretty close to the ground floor price. Angel investors and pre-sale investors sometimes receive quite large discounts from main sale prices, but their tokens are locked up for varying amounts of time, to prevent dumping, or selling all their tokens for a quick profit at the time of listing. Today the vast majority of ICOs make use of the Ethereum blockchain and the ERC-20 token. The very first token sale was arranged by Mastercoin, a Bitcoin fork, in July 2013. Ethereum soon followed in early 2014, raising 3700 BTC in only 12 hours (equivalent to $2.3 million at that time, and just under $35 million today). Before late 2015 there were sporadic ICOs, with Augur, NXT and Factom all successfully raising funds. 2016 was the year that the ICO format grew to truly disrupt the Venture Capital industry. There were 64 ICOs in 2016 which cumulatively raised $103 million USD.
Tremendous Success & Why Real World Case Study
The ICON (ICX) Initial coin offering is an example of a project that reaped the rewards of a token sale done with precision of execution and clarity of vision. The project promised to build a world-wide decentralized network that would allow Blockchains of different governances to transact with one another without a centralized authority, and with as few barriers as possible. ICX offered fair and clear tokenomics, with 1 Ether buying 2500 ICX, and with 1 ETH costing approximately 250 dollars when the ICO began on September 18th. 50% of the total amount of tokens were put up for public sale, 400,230,000 out of a total of 800,460,000, equating to a fundraising goal of 150,000 Ether. One of the core reasons for the project’s spectacular success was the incredibly distinguished background of those involved, and the foundation the project had in many years of stellar achievement. ICON was originally a project developed by “The Loop”, a joint venture between DAYLI financial group and three Korean Universities. They lead the Korea Financial Investment Blockchain Consortium, one of the largest organizations of its kind in the world, boasting members including Samsung Securities. The Loop had already implemented Blockchain solutions for high profile clients well before ICX was born, including completing a KYC/AML authentication smart contract platform for Korea Financial Investment Consortium.
Real World Example of Failure & Why Case Study
The risk involved in starting your own company is huge. Over 75% of startups eventually fail, according to the Harvard Business School study by Shikhar Ghosh. The study’s findings show the rate of failure for new companies is roughly 50% after 5 years, and over 75% after 10. Shikhar Ghosh identifies the following issues as the most common factors in start-up failure: -Insufficient Market Demand -Insolvency -Wrong Team -Got beat by competition -Pricing/Cost issues -Poor Product -Need for or Lack of business model -Ineffective Marketing -Disregarding Customer desires The statistics concerning rate of failure for conventional business startups pale in comparison to the number of crypto startups that fail according to Tokendata. They are one of the most rigorous ICO trackers, recording 46% of the 902 ICO crowdsale projects initiated in 2017 as failing by the time of writing. Of these 46%, 142 collapsed before the end of the funding stage, and a further 276 had either “exit scammed” (took the money and ran) or slowly faded into eventual obscurity. With no shortage of failed and abortive projects to look into, we thought it would be more helpful to look into an ICO that was mismanaged and unsuccessful in terms of its execution, rather than being fraudulent, or terminally mismanaged.
Real World Example of Failure & Why §3
Tezos was designed as a “new decentralized Blockchain that governs itself by establishing a true digital commonwealth”. The project was a partnership between the husband and wife team of Kathleen and Arthur Breitman, and a Swiss foundation run by Johann Gevers. They had a novel idea of “formal verification”, a technique that mathematically proves the veracity of code governing transactions and heightens security of smart contracts. That idea was wholeheartedly endorsed by investors, resulting in $232 million USD raised in the 2017 crowdsale. Trouble arose after the Breitmans asked the head of the Swiss foundation they were in partnership with to step down. In Gever’s words, the Breitman’s were attempting “to bypass Swiss legal structure and take over control of the foundation”. The resulting 6 class action lawsuits that were spawned from the wreckage of one of the most successful ICOs of all time have yet to be fully resolved at the time of writing, though Gevers has stepped down and a new leadership team is in place. The Tezos Network has a prospective launch date of somewhere around Q3 2018. The debacle, though not terminal to the prospects of the Tezos network, provides a cautionary tale about the need for a clearly defined leadership structure and plan for the allocation of funds after an ICO. It is entirely possible that the Tezos project could have ridden the late 2017 market euphoria to sit near the top of the cryptocurrency hierarchy if boardroom strife could have been avoided.
Real World Example of Failure & Why §4
Projects often also “pivot” from one focus or project to another. More often than not, teams change the project name entirely, even while retaining the same core team, to try for a successful venture one more time. One such project is Chain Trade Token (CTT) which, while technically speaking, not yet a “deadcoin”, shows all the signs of shutting down operations within a few months, and “pivoting” into a new project. The CTT project aimed to be the “first blockchain-based platform for the trading of futures and options on food and raw materials (aka commodity derivatives)”. But through a combination of a non-existent social media presence, and a distinct lack of urgency in securing listings beyond decentralized exchanges, the lofty ambitions of the top-level team were left unrealized. The team has supposedly split their operations from solely Chain Trade, to a former business endeavors, and the Nebula Decentralized Exchange. The project leaders then offered a 1-for-1 token swap which has been accepted by the vast majority of CTT holders.
The ICO Process
Before even researching the particular strengths and weaknesses of any specific project in which you may want to invest, it is important to know the overall processes of the ICO crowdfunding method. This will allow you to avoid any potential pitfalls if you do decide to move forward and invest money into a particular idea or project. How does an ICO happen? Stage One: Token sale details are set: This takes place usually after release of the whitepaper, and the presentation of a project to prospective investors in forums and on social media. Stage Two: Whitelisting for private sale begins: The vast majority of all ICOs have instituted KYC checks for investors which usually involve uploading a photograph of your passport or driving license along with a selfie holding the ID. Did you know? Participation in ICOs has proven to be a regulatory nightmare in some localities. Most token sales restrict contributions from investors in China and the USA entirely, though accredited investors may participate in the USA in some cases.
Stage Three: Private/Pre-sale states: Typically, 10% of tokens will be offered to early investors at a 10–30% discount. These select few investors will likely have a close association with the team. But not all projects have a pre-sale round, some go straight to public sale. Stage Four: Whitelisting for Public/Main sale starts: The same format used for pre-sale investors is used for public sale investors, though it is a regular occurrence to see main sale KYC checks closed early due to overwhelming demand. An investor must then register a contribution wallet address. That is the address used to send cryptocurrency from, to buy the ICO tokens, and then also into which you will receive your purchased tokens. This wallet address must be a non-exchange wallet, like Blockchain.info bitcoin wallet, or MyEtherWallet for ERC-20. You already understand from the prior lesson that making a mistake with your wallet address may mean you lose the tokens forever as well as the BTC or ETH you used to purchase them. Copying and pasting your cryptocurrency public key into the whitelist wallet form is the next task to complete. And then, as the investor, you wait for confirmation of successful ICO registration from the team.
Stage Five: Public sale starts: Commonly on a specific date, though sometimes for a specific period of time. If you are interested in participating in an ICO, it is important to make your contribution as quickly as possible, or you risk sending your ETH or BTC after the hard cap has been reached, resulting in your funds being sent back. This refund can sometimes take many days, or even weeks in times of high market activity. Did you know? In 2017 it was not unheard of to find ICOs that had originally scheduled their ICO period for many weeks, but then they met with such high demand that they could close their crowdsale in a matter of hours or even in just a few minutes!
Stage Six: Tokens are allocated to successful participant investor wallets, and trading can begin on some decentralized exchanges like IDEX, or EtherDelta in the case of Ethereum based tokens. Tokens will be sent to and received by the wallet addresses from which the investor contributions were made. Stage Seven: Tokens are listed on mainstream exchanges: The tokens will then be listed on the exchanges with which the teams have negotiated listing, prior to or during the sale. It can cost huge amounts of money to list on large exchanges like Bitfinex Bittrex, Huobi or Binance, so usually smaller projects will not be listed on top 10 exchanges so quickly. As tokens are listed on more and more exchanges, their price usually rises because more and more investors are exposed to opportunities to buy that particular token.
Evaluating a Blockchain Use Case
Evaluating a particular use case for Blockchain technology, and thus how successful an ICO project’s ambitions might be in a particular market, is not a simple endeavor. As demonstrated in the graphic below, Blockchain technology has nearly limitless potential to be applied to a great variety of business areas, but as an ICO investor, you are looking for projects that have the potential to deliver significant long-term success. In the currently saturated ICO environment, some use cases have more potential than others. Ascertaining which use case is likely to have long term success is a key distinction. Also, we must recognize that businesses and corporate entities may be overeager to experiment with this new Blockchain technology, whether or not usage of the technology is actually advisable or profitable for their particular purpose. The main questions to ask when analyzing specific solutions proposed by the project are: What are the problems posed and the solutions offered? Does this particular area of business need a Blockchain solution? That is, is a Blockchain solution in fact superior to the current way this particular business operates? Is the use of Blockchain in this specific instance feasible and applicable? What are competitors doing about Blockchain projects in this same area?
A Blockchain network provides a shared, replicated, secured, immutable and verifiable data ledger. The implication for use case analysis: Shared and replicated: participants have a copy of the ledger and many people can view it or work on it Secured: Secured through cryptography Verifiable: Business rules are associated with all interactions that occur on the network Immutable: Transactions (records) cannot be modified or deleted, therefore a verifiable audit trail is maintained by the network So, with all this considered, what should we look for with regard to a possible business use case that would be best solved using Blockchain technology? 1. Data exchange that has trust issues i.e. businesses transacting with one another. Trust must be established through a multitude of verification processes with regards to employees and products. These processes increase operational cost. Example: Digital voting. 2. Any potential business process involving data storage, or compliance and risk data that get audited. Blockchain solutions would provide the regulators a real-time view of information. Example: Supply chain solutions like VeChain or WaltonChain. The possibility of close to zero operational loss would of course be attractive to any business. 3. All kinds of asset transactions. A Blockchain network, with its tamper-proof ledger, validating traceable and trackable transactions, could save many different industries untold amounts of money. Example: Tokenization of assets e.g. Jibrel Network or Polymath
Purpose of Tokens
Within the cryptocurrency ecosystem, the definition and role of a token iswidely understood. They represent programmable units of currency that sit atop a particular Blockchain, and they are part of a smart contract “logic” specific to a certain application. In the business sphere, a token can be defined as a unit of value that a project or business venture creates to enable it to self-govern. And the business venture also allows token users to connect and collaborate with its business products, while facilitating the sharing of rewards to all of its stakeholders. A token can also be described in a more general sense as a type of privately issued currency. In the past it was solely within the purview of governments to issue currency and set the terms of its governance. With the advent of Blockchain technology we now have businesses and organizations offering forms of digital money over which they, not the government or central bank, have control of the terms of operations and issuance. Wide scale adoption of these mechanisms could fundamentally alter the global economy. This is like the creation of self-sustaining, mini-economies in any sector of business or life, via a specific token or currency.
Fun Fact: Tokens of the particular Blockchain upon which the project is launched will usually have to be bought in order to be exchanged for ICO tokens, hence it is important for traders and investors to be aware of the schedule for upcoming ICOs. ETH is usually the token used for exchange because the majority of ICOs launch on the Ethereum Blockchain. But this is not always the case. During January 2018, two NEO token ICOs, both the Key TKY and Ontology ICOs, were being carried out, and this caused the NEO cryptocurrency to spike to its all-time high in excess of $160 USD. Since the product or project is more often than not in its embryonic stage at the time of the ICO crowdfunding process, the ICO token’s true function and purpose is in most cases yet to be realized. At the ICO stage the tokens can usually be grouped together into one of three categories. Knowing how to distinguish these categories involves determining the specific nature and function of the token around which the project is centered. The main and crucial distinction, is whether or not a token is a security, and therefore subject to securities registration requirements.
ICO Stage Token Categories
Howey Test: This is the test created by the US Supreme Court to ascertain whether certain transactions qualify as “investment contracts”. If they are found to fall within this classification, then under the Securities Act of 1933 and the Exchange Act of 1934, those transactions are considered “securities” and participants must adhere to registration and disclosure requirements. One of the most important and amazing considerations of the effect of Blockchain technology is that normal people with a computer science background are now empowered to make decisions and offer products and services that previously only licensed financial institutions were able to do. This is a very complex and complicated situation with serious ramifications for anyone involved. One thing to note well is that ordinary participants and actors in this arena can easily commit white-collar crime, violating serious securities laws, without even realizing it. If a token falls within the US legal definition of “Investment Contract” then you must adhere to US regulations. For that reason, many ICOs simply do not want to sell to US based investors, perhaps until all the rules and regulations are clarified.
Security Tokens
The broad and varying definition of the term “security” is a regulatory minefield. This has always been true for traditional financial products, and now it is especially true for the as yet unregulated cryptocurrency market. In the case of SEC V. Howey, parameters were established to determine whether or not a particular financial arrangement could be classified as a security and thus be subject to securities regulations. Cooley LLP Fintech Team Leader Marco Santori has said, an arrangement is a security if it involves “an investment of money, and a common enterprise, with the expectation of profit, primarily from the efforts of others.” Investors have the option of accessing a huge range of security tokens through ICOs. Prime examples are the gold backed DigixDao (DGD) and CProp (still in crowd funding stage). A security token is fundamentally different from the currently available ICO project tokens in that it provides a legal and enforceable ownership of a company’s profits and voice in its governance much like common stock traded on any exchange. If security tokens are the next step in the evolution of crypto-finance, real estate, stocks, venture capital, and commodities can all be tokenized. The traditional markets could be fully connected to the Blockchain. Financial assets would available to anyone in the world, not just licensed or accredited investors. That is one aspect of Fintech, the financial revolution taking place today, as Blockchain technology clashes with traditional finance.
Equity Tokens
One exciting application of smart contracts on the Ethereum Network is the potential for startups to distribute equity tokens through initial coin offerings. That would reduce the hurdles that an average person has to face in order to take part in the early stages of a company’s development. And, democratic governance of a project could be conducted in a transparent manner through voting on the Blockchain. As of yet, few startups have attempted to conduct equity token sales for fear of falling afoul of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the US. But many Venture Capital insiders are bullish on the prospect of equity tokens taking a central role in the crypto finance industry, when and as the legal issues are resolved. For example, the Delaware State legislature recently passed a bill enabling companies to maintain shareholder lists on the Blockchain. That is one major step to enable Blockchain based stock trading. Lawyers also generally believe it is only a matter of time before the regulations are clarified. Did you know? Important consideration: The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 made it unfeasibly expensive for smaller companies to be listed on exchanges, causing a halving in the number of IPOs between 1996 and 2016 (7322 to 3671). In 2017 there was an almost 5-fold increase in the number of ICOs, from 43 to 210, with the 2017 volume already being eclipsed in the first 5 months of 2018.
Utility Tokens
However, given that this area is still a regulatory nightmare for people planning to issue security and equity tokens, many projects attempt to ensure that the tokens within their specific model fall under the definition of Utility Tokens rather than securities, so as to avoid the SEC regulations altogether. If a token is imbued with a certain functionality and use within the Blockchain infrastructure of that particular project, the token can avoid being labelled as a security, and thus render SEC regulations inapplicable. Just this week in fact, the SEC made the long-awaited and momentous decision that Ether was not a security. In the words of William Hinman, director of the Securities and Exchange Commission division of corporate finance, “Putting aside the fundraising that accompanied the creation of Ether, based on my understanding of the present state of Ether, the Ethereum network and its decentralized structure, current offers and sales of Ether are not securities transactions.” This means that Ethereum, in fact, fails the Howey test, which is exactly the decision the crypto world wanted. Hinman said, “When the efforts of the third party are no longer a key factor for determining the enterprise’s success, material information asymmetries recede,” Hinman said. “The ability to identify an issuer or promoter to make the requisite disclosures becomes difficult, and less meaningful.” We will now cover various use cases that projects have been adopting up to now in order to get their tokens classified as utility tokens rather than securities.
Voting Rights
Some coins portray themselves as a company with tokens being held in a way that is analogous to voting shares of a stock. One coin held is equal to one vote. This form of token utility has a major flaw in that so-called whales (people with huge amounts of a particular cryptocurrency) can manipulate any poll conducted. The cryptocurrencies Aragon and Lykke are examples of projects that have written voting rights into the structure of their code. In-App Reward: Another common tactic to evade the security label has been the addition of in-app rewards to the functionality of a particular token. The Basic Attention Token (BAT) is the unit of currency for use with the project browser named “Brave”. The BAT is a unit of account for the advertisers, publishers and users of the platform. Filecoin, the cloud storage project that raised a record $257 million through their ICO, pays other people or companies for use of their spare storage space. Some of the many rights afforded to token holders in various Blockchain projects are described by the graphic below.
Token Roles Function
The token can be used as a mechanism through which user experience is enhanced, enabling such actions as connection with users, or joining a broader network. It may also be used as an incentive for beginning usage or for on-boarding. Examples include Dfinity and Steemit. Value Exchange: In its most basic usage, a token is a unit of value exchange within a specific app or market. This usually is made up of features that allow users to earn tokens through real work or passive work (sharing data, allowing use of storage space) and to spend them on services or internal functions within the specific market ecosystem created by that organization. Augur and KIK, amongst countless others, are projects that have implemented this functionality into their tokenomics. Toll: The token can also be used for getting onto the Blockchain infrastructure, or for powering decentralized applications run on that particular Blockchain. This ensures that users have “skin in the game”. Tolls can be derived from running smart contracts, paying a security deposit, or just usage fees. Examples include Bitcoin and Ethereum. Currency: Seeing as the particular platform or app is designed with a view towards functioning in synergy with a particular token, the token is an extremely efficient means of payment and transaction engine, resulting in frictionless transactions. This means that companies can become their own payment processors and no longer have to rely on the often unwieldy stages of conventional financial settlement involving trusted third parties in the form of banks and credit card companies.
Rights: Owning a token bequests certain rights upon the holder, such as product usage, voting, access to restricted markets, and dividends (e.g.: GAS for holding NEO). Though most businesses are trying to avoid fitting the definition of a security laid out in the Howey Test, the right to real ownership of a particular asset is sometimes granted as a result of holding a token, for example DigixDAO or Tezos.
Comparison to Traditional IPO and Equity Capital Raisings
Despite the similarity of the acronyms and the derivation of one from the other, Initial Coin Offerings and Initial Public Offerings are very different methods of fundraising. The distinction is not limited simply to the fact that IPOs are used in conventional business, and ICOs are associated with cryptocurrency. Through ICO’s, companies in their early stages issue digital tokens on a Blockchain and those tokens act as units of value for use within the ecosystem created by the project. They have many other uses, but it is also fair to say they are analogous to shares offered in an Initial Public offering.
In an IPO, shareholdings are distributed to investors through underwriters, usually investment banks. But in the case of ICO token sales, companies often do not even have an actual product to show. Often, all that there is a whitepaper, evidence of the partnerships involved and the particular social-media infrastructure they have established. IPO’s take place when a more well-established company floats shares on a stock exchange. The company would have a well-established history of success and significant reasons to expect a bright future. In the vast majority of cases, an ICO is used for a new company with no such history, just trying to get off the ground.
Another important difference is the expected return in exchange for the investment. Companies engaging in IPOs may offer participants dividend paying stocks which result in various levels of return depending on the success of the company after the shares are issued. An ICO however can offer no such guaranteed return. When buying tokens in an ICO, you do so with no promise of return. An investor who holds the tokens of a particular project does so with the promise, rather than an assurance, of future success. The main benefit to investors taking part in Initial Coin Offerings, compared to Initial Public Offerings, is the need for only basic Know Your Customer checks in the case of the ICO, compared to the costly, complex and time-consuming regulatory obstacles that must be traversed in an IPO. In the case of Initial Public Offerings, a business must obtain authorization from a number of entities before the act of “going public”. Prior to an IPO, companies are not obliged to disclose so much of their internal records or accounting. It is not so complicated to make a private company in the United States. But in the run up to going public, the company must form a board of directors, make their records auditable to the relevant authorities in one or more jurisdictions, and prepare to make quarterly reports to the SEC (or equivalent).
Relevant Factors to Consider in ICO process
When analyzing the chances of success for a specific project, and the likelihood of a favorable return on investment in the long term, it is essential to break down the project into its constituent parts, and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each part individually. An effective investigation and analysis would start with the team and white paper. Consider the stage the project is at,and VC investments in the project. That would lead to a good initial idea of the actual progress thus far. Next, evaluate the social media presence and the credentials of the community that has formed around the core team. If a compelling case is made by the team, (e.g.: via an in-depth dive into the use case), and the tokenomics, distribution schedule, potential competitors, as well as the team’s awareness of any future business or regulatory concerns all check out; then the ICO might present a good opportunity for investment. In the following slides we tackle each of these considerations in order so you will be able to evaluate an ICO’s worth and assign a grade for the success of each project.
Relevant Factors to Consider in ICO process
The Team First and most important, we need evaluate the background and experience of the team, the people involved in the project. Well-established developers, for example, will likely have LinkedIn profiles demonstrating their previous endeavors and occupations, from which we can judge their suitability to the project and the likelihood of the team’s success. The LinkedIn profile is a point of reference for professional accomplishments and official positions. But we can also learn more about a person from their personal accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and Medium etc. That is also a good way to follow along with the progress of the project. By investigating team members through as many means as possible, you will know how long they have been involved in cryptocurrency. If they have been around and active for a long time, they are that much more likely to be knowledgeable and capable of making better quality decisions in this business. It goes without saying that it is a huge red flag if it is too difficult to find information about the team members online, and worse still if the team members are anonymous.
Relevant Factors to Consider in ICO process
A good Whitepaper gives a detailed description of the project, the problems the team is going to solve, the timeframe projected, and methods to be used in the implementation of their ideas. If, in answering the question about what the project actually does, it seems the team is presenting ideas that are too complicated or advanced to understand, then you simply should not invest until you are satisfied you have been given the requisite level of insight to understand the concepts described. It is always possible that the whitepaper is nothing more than a salad of buzzwords and technical language intended to give the impression of competence while really doing nothing but obfuscate the truth. The whitepaper should clearly and concisely present the problems and the solutions needed. The whitepaper must give a solid and coherent answer as to who needs this project and why. Also, if the team have put no effort into explaining why a Blockchain solution is needed for this particular problem, or why such a solution is superior to its “real-world” equivalent, it is likely they are only in it for the money. We have more to say about red-flags later.
While 2016 raised a comparatively small amount in comparison to the proceeding years, there were a few specific projects that raised significant amounts of capital. These are respectable amounts of money, even by today’s standards, and especially impressive when contrasted with the immaturity of the ICO market at the time, and relative to amounts raised in traditional IPOs. Waves ($16.4mill), Iconomi ($10.6mill) and Golem ($8.6mill) were the three largest fundraisings of the year. 2017 was the year of the ICO whales. Hdac ($258mill), Filecoin ($257mill), EOS Stage 1 ($185mill) and Paragon ($183.16mill) were the largest that year. To be able to raise so much money, so quickly, in such a new market, using such a new mechanism is truly incredible. 2017 was the year that proved ICOs are for serious individuals and institutional investors as well. We have also had some phenomenal amounts raised so far in 2018. Telegram ($1.7bill), Dragon ($320mill), Huobi ($300mill) and Bankera ($150mill). Telegram might be the first mainstream example of an ICO, not only by raising close to $2billion, which would be beyond incredible and impressive even by traditional IPO standards; but also, because it is one of the first ICO companies to tangibly put a product in the hands of hundreds of millions of users, and successfully compete against traditional companies such as Facebook (MessengeWhatsApp), Microsoft (Skype) and Tencent (WeChat).

Abundance via Cryptocurrencies.

Back in 2011 before I started munching red pills errday, I was looking to loot up. I thought google was the perfect example of clever entrepreneurship and despite the fact I knew jack shit about it, I subbed to programming thinking that most likely something big was going to come out of the computer realm. A couple of months later a little article popped into my feed from there " Google develops new bitcoin wallet ". I had a read of the comments and it was noted that it wasn't google developing the wallet but rather an employee as part of their extra vocational activities. Someone in the comment section mentioned the silk road and I had a little look around trying to find out more about it. I downloaded Tor and found the way to access it and after looking around thought that I'd better give it a crack.
I got my first bitcoin via paypal for <$1 but then paypal cracked down on that channel and because there were no Australian exchanges I had to go some roundabout way of getting myself second life credits and then using an in game exchange for bitcoin. I bought a few more and had a little dabble on SR. It worked and my little sample orders came through. I was super impressed and set about getting more of this magic internet money that had enabled such a cool service. About the same time, it started going through it's first bubble getting as high as $30. It crashed down to $20, then $15, then $10 and at each of those levels I threw a few grand at it that I had sitting in an account from when my granddad died. I was keen to get more but then it started heading lower and I thought "ah I don't actually know shit about this. I think it's a good idea, but this is my first time investing and I could well just end up going out the back door."
They hit $2 a coin but I had no need to sell and just sat on them for a couple of years. Towards the end of 2012, as the first halving of the block reward was approaching, the price started to move again. It got up to around $15 again where I was even, but again I had no need to sell and just sat on them. By April or so they'd gone mental and had reached their then all time high of $270 odd. At the peak they were going up so fast that I went to bed one night and woke up with my stack worth $5k more. I cashed out enough to buy a few oz of gold for my original $4k investment but held the rest.
Throughout this time I'd been consuming all I could about this cool new tech and the associated avenues that had opened up in decentralized/disruptive technologies. I was reading every post in rad_decentralization polycentric_law, seasteading, open source ecology and whatever I could digest to apply to my vision of what I wanted to do with this loot.
A couple of months later I went off on an adventure overseas to go surfing in Mex, some summer festivals and do a snow season in Canada. I was reluctant to spend my coins because they'd now gone down to around $70 or $80 bucks so I'd been going through my savings. After Burning Man I was out of cash. I was supposed to go back to Mexico to hit up the south with some friends but I decided instead to go up to Northern Cali to try find some work on the farms in a town we'd passed through.
I spent my last $200 on a crappy hotel and getting pissed at the bar looking for leads for work. The next day we found a guy who'd give us a start and we headed up to the hills to work for a few months. We had worked for 2 weeks when there was a bit of a hiatus for a few days (which coincided with symbiosis festival), so we went down there to party for a few days.
On the weed farms we'd been hanging with lots of deadhead kids and they'd all been sharing stories of eating heaps of acid and other drugs and I thought it was time I give a big dose a try. I managed to get a hold of some at the festival, tore off 5 tabs and shoved em on my tongue. The guys face kinda dropped and he's like "dude, they're really strong". I had just smoked a masssssive joint and was about halfway through a bottle of captain morgans, so I just kinded "Meh'd" him and laughed. Needless to say, they were indeed quite strong and 6 hrs later I've got some medic knocking on the porta potty asking me if I'm alright. Completely naked, filthy, sticks and leaves and shit all through my beard and hair. I'm like "yeah, i'm ok but do you have my clothes?" She didn't and didn't know where they were but I managed to get a blanket off her and walked outside into the party. At that exact moment my friends happened to be walking past first aid and I heard one of their voices through the darkness. I yelled out to him and the others and they came over and took me with them.
I went back to camp a bit bummed out that i'd gone too hard and ruined the party, but then I could hear the music pumping and actually felt pretty good so I went back out to look for my clothes and shit. I couldn't find them until the next day my jeans turned up in lost and found with my wallet in them. I rolled out of that party that next evening, pretty rattled, no shoes and totally broke again.
Not long after I got back to the farms I heard of the silk road bust and noticed bitcoin had taken another hit. However, in the following days, perhaps due to the shutting down of an unsavoury aspect of the bitcoin ecosystem, the coins went on a surge. By the time I was up in Canada for my working holiday snow season they'd gone as high as $1250 a coin. I cashed a few out to sort myself out for the season. Didn't bother finding a job, bought a pound of weed and just boarded every day.
Through this time, I'd spread a bunch of my stack over some shares denominated in bitcoin and some of those were generating me nice dividends. One in particular which was in a company making mining hardware was doing really well and I put a lot of my coins in there. They took a hit after restructuring their business model to redirect dividends into R&D, which made the price plummet. I doubled down on them but eventually they ended up going out the back door. I lost another 10btc or so to a scam run out of Cyprus that was supposed to be a btc-euro gateway company, but he bailed once the btc price dropped. A few others crashed along the way and then in the mean time I'd spent most of my liquid coins on going back to Oz to visit my girlfriend, returning to canada, then returning back to Oz once that relationship was on the rocks.
I got back to Oz the second time, with only a couple of coins left, they'd dropped down to $400 or so, things didn't work out with her and I just fell into a rut after being on such a high. I talked mum into selling me her old car for a few bitcoin and moved to Melbourne to try something new. Around this time projects like ethereum, ripple, dash, monero were all starting up and since I'd been burned on a few scams and failures, I doubted my ability to discern what was going on and out of fear didn't get involved with any of them.
During the run up of the coins from $15-$1250 I'd been digging into researching all about decentralized/disruptive technologies and had been developing ideas for radical community projects utilizing the benefits of open source technologies and distributed ledgers to greatly increase efficiency, as well as transparency and accountability. When I moved to Melbourne I went to a few bitcoin meetups but just found that they were full of traders and business folk but not many were into the radical side of things. I started knocking around with a few crew from the party scene and began brainstorming some ideas for festival/community development through crypto.
Though at the peak the projects that I'd been ideating had seemed almost tangible, when back in the real world with no money, they became much further away. I couldn't go back to the old way of thinking in the traditional paradigm, but without a bankroll I didn't really know where to start. I still wanted those things, but had no capital and no network. Through my research into crypto I'd discovered the scheme that is the Federal Reserve and the corruption of fiat currency and through that found myself being drawn to conspiracy and becoming addicted to "figuring it all out".
I got a bit of casual work, but I just couldn't bring myself to engage with the system on anything other than my terms. I still dreamed of community development but all my time was spent in the web of lies and paranoia that is the conspiracy realm. From my solid acid trip I'd got enough of a glimpse of the spiritual nature of things that I still manged to hold the light through my foray into the pit, but I became a bit consumed by it all. I had another couple of trips that showed me a look at an interdimensional world but in glimpsing them, I also took on a lot of paranoia that I had to work through. I started seeing bitcoin as the system for the NWO to implement their cashless economy and mark everyone for eternal damnation.
I kind of stayed in this world for nearly a year or so, until I stocked up on DMT from a guy at a festival and got stuck into that as a bit of a practice. What it told me was that all this world is my creation. The abundance I experience comes from a state of mind and similarly the poverty I experience comes from the opposite state of mind. It told me the most important thing I could be doing, is working to cultivate a mentality of abundance. I began cultivating that idea and whenever I was consciously aware of a choice between abundance and scarcity I would endeavour to choose abundance.
A few months later, I ended up falling in love, getting married, meeting a friend who has a project called "abundance" (where he is trying to cultivate the shift in perception on a mass scale), had a kid, took on a massive build/renovation to a warehouse/ started a business. Recently the business has gotten to a point where I actually have a couple of spare bucks again and so I decided to enter back into the world of cryptocurrency to see where it's at. I got 2 bitcoin and thought I'd spread them around on a few of the alt coins to see how they go.
I'm still distrustful of the story behind bitcoins inception and it's role in the overall scheme of things, but I have regained faith in my ability to discern what's going on. In the bundle of cryptos there probably is one that will be the vehicle for the beast to get their subjects, but that's not going to stop me from riding the train to abundance town in the mean time.
I bought a bitcoin and spread it around on a few of the alt coins that I thought looked interesting eth, etc, ltc, pivx and ripple. I think Ripple is set to go bananas. They're currently working with about 150 banks to use ripple to settle international transfers. Apparently they're also in negotiation with the reserve bank of Japan to utilize it. If you're aware that the US economy has been set up to tank, and there's going to be a restructuring of the power to an eastern led financial system, ripple seems like the prime candidate the facilitate that. When they roll out new SDR backed BRICS currency, they're not going to be able to just implement a new standard by coercsion. It's going to be by utilizing existing services that are already being used by a number of people. Ripple is a Silicon Valley start up, and if you know anything about the MIC involvement in SV, you'd know many of the companies from there are simply fronts to enable the implementation of the technology that TPTB are ready to release to us. In the 2-3 weeks that I've had my ripples it's already gone up 100% but I think it could possibly be at $1 (from $0.07 now) within a year if they succeed in taking down SWIFT.
I was talking to my friend with the abundance project about crpyto and how we're going to liberate ourselves from fiat slavery and he saw a number plate on a car in front of him that read XTC 999. I thought I remembered a coin that had the trading abbreviation of XTC so I had a look around on it. There was in fact a coin that had that but when I was reading the thread about it on bitcointalk it appeared that the project had stalled. In the same thread someone mentioned that although it had stalled, if you like the look of the project, you should take a look at IOTA.
I looked it up and what do ya know, it's a super innovative new protocol designed to for intermachine operability in the internet of things. It doesn't run on the blockchain, but rather has a new type of ledger called the tangle which does asynchronous settlement which their developers allow it to scale infinitely as it increases in efficiency as it records more and more transactions. Because the individual making the transaction does the POW at the time of the transaction, it also allows IOTA to run without fees because spamming the network actually assists it by confirming more and more transactions. I did some digging on it and because it's not listed on any exchanges it's a bit harder to come by, but I was super keen to get some so I threw a bitcoin on it over on their trading channel on #slack. In the two weeks that I've had my IOTA it's already increased by another 66% as well.
I don't really know what the point of this post is, but I just wanted to share with you all because I love you and I think that we're approaching a point where the traditional financial system is about the be dismantled and the new one is rolling out. The new one isn't some currency that a bunch of coders in a Russian office have been working on. The Russian coders are working for ethereum, the MIC is working through Ripple in Silicon Valley. Having projects developed in an office is old school. It's way more efficient for TPTB to release some technology to the masses and have them develop their own chains that will enslave them. These companies now are the companies that will service the NWO's cashless economy. I would encourage you to get in and get some while the going it good and then put those earnings towards setting yourself up so that when the day comes that "none shall trade without the mark of the beast", you're living off grid in your open source gifting economy and you don't give a fuck.

Dev: Hi guys, we hope that you are all well. Please find our May update below.
https://mylinx.io/news/may-2018-update/ May Update:
Payment Integration: Unfortunately we have to announce that our first scheduled Linx payment retail integration has been delayed. Of course this comes as a disappointment for us as we're sure it does to you too. We have uploaded a press release from Traxsource below explaining the situation. Here is a transcription :
April 30th, 2018
Due to the increased work load involved in our ongoing store upgrades we are not in a position to integrate the Linx payment system on May 1st as planned.
We are extremely disappointed to announce this news, as both sides have put so much time & effort into making this happen. It goes without saying that we will continue to offer our full support to the Linx project & the team behind it. We hope to be able to bring this project to fruition at a later date.
Sincerely,
Brian Tappert Traxsource Managing Director
The platform : As you will no doubt be aware recent guidelines and regulations in the protection and handling of personal data is changing the way web based platforms operate. API access to some of the biggest social networks is now being restricted among other things and this has caused us to rethink a few major aspects of our own platform.
Although we firmly believe the new data regulations are a great thing for end users, it has also resulted in changes to some of the features that were originally incorporated . Our original schedule for the roll out of the platform was in stages. First we would introduce a fully functional baseline system and then start adding more features over time. After much discussion, we have now agreed that we need to deliver a much more ambitious platform from the get go. One additional aspect of the resdesigned platform is that we will now be including an audio upload and streaming service which will allow artists and musicians to showcase and sell their music directly (using Linx of course) from their profile page.
We are very close to completion and will notify beta testers as soon as we comfortable with the new model so you can put it through it's paces before release.
Block halving : Welcome news for long term holders is that in around 36 days the Linx block reward halves for the first time since our blockchain launched. This will reduce the block reward from 50 to 25 Linx, dramatically slowing down the amount of freshly minted Linx released every day. You can monitor the countdown to halving at the following page : https://mylinx.io/halving
Source and Wallets : The team is currently working on a completely updated version of the Linx source code which implements many of the latest developments in blockchain tech. iOS and Droid wallets will follow the release of the new source. As we're sure most of you are already aware, Linx wallet support is already available for iOS and Android in the excellent Coinomi app : https://coinomi.com
Lastly, although the unexpected delay in our first retail integration was not the news we’d hoped to deliver to you today, we hope that finally knowing who the retailer is will go some way to easing any concerns you may have had about the validity of the Linx project or the abilities of our team. Although we have had to adjust the schedule of our roadmap our goals for Linx remain unchanged. There is a ton of exciting things happening behind the scenes but we remain reluctant to speak about them until they are ready to be realized. In light of the current situation we hope that you will understand the reasoning behind our position on this. For those that are uncomfortable not knowing what's coming, we totally understand and trust you will use your best judgement with regards to any Linx holdings you may have.
If you have any questions about anything ask away and we'll do our best to address them where possible here in the slack channel.
Team Linx

Dev: Hi guys, before we address your questions we just want to say that the reactions to the news yesterday from the community both in here, on Telegram and on Twitter has left us somewhat deflated. We knew the delay wasn't going to be well received but we hoped that you would see that the delay was not of our making, and see the positives in revealing the name of our partner and also realise that we have been completely straight with you from the start. Instead we watched some of our "supporters" calling us scammers, some even insinuating that we dumped ahead of the announcement. Neither could be further from the truth. Emotions were running high yesterday. We wanted to let everybody have their say before we responded to anything. With that said, onto some of your questions and comments...
User: "Some of us are holders and miners from june. We deserve more @linx team" Dev: We appreciate your frustration John as we are feeling exactly the same. Months and months of work on the payment system took priority over everything else as we knew it was going to be a massive coup for the project integrating with one of the most reputable dance music retailers in the world. The amount of work involved set us back with everything else. Remember, we don't have millions of dollars raised from an ICO to just employ an army of people to get this done. All we can do is assure you that nothing has changed from our perspective, if anything our vision, especially for the platform, is bigger now than we first anticipated. We totally appreciate and respect people like yourself that have been with us from the start and shown real support for the project and we hope that your faith in the project remains.
User: "Unfortunately devs probably knew for quite some time that this wasn’t happening today and used their recent hype to dump their bags." Dev: Not true. For those calling us scammers or liars or insinuating that we have dumped our supply, we suggest that you save yourself the anxiety and exit now without looking back.
User: "if there was an exchange they would have mentioned it" Dev: Check out the guidelines and rules for listing on any of the larger exchanges.
User: "its been 1 year with nothing to show for it at the moment" Dev: Not true and extremely insulting.
User: "you don't give us enough information" Dev: Yes this is a valid point, but we did tell you how we planned to operate from day one. If we felt we could tell you things and they wouldn't be used as hyping weapons we would be much more forthcoming. The last thing we wanted from this project was a lot of hot air out there and a community getting progressively angered by promises of things to come that are yet to materialise. Yesterday, when we did say something, we watched as people from the crypto community publicly attempted to rubbish our project to our retail partner. Yes, against our better judgement we have made some statements, in good faith, regarding our roadmap along the way to address some of the constant questions raised from the community. The reason we never wanted to say anything prematurely is hopefully blatantly obvious now. We fully understand the never ending cycle of hype and fud that the cryptoscene thrives on, but we told you from the start that we were not going to do that.
User: "Since the first partnership didn't go through for now, could you tell us a bit more about the future business strategy of linxpay? Will you release the retail or consumer software to public?" Dev: Absolutely. We weren't planning to release this until the retail version was out there but yes, the consumer version will be fast forwarded now for sure. Work on the platform is currently taking priority, once that's finished this will be next. Think of it like an alternative to the paypal model. It will be as simple as registering an account and making a simple API call to start accepting Linx on any website or blog.
User: "Why set deadlines at all if it's not set in stone with Traxsource." Dev: We didn't. We agreed a deal with Traxsource in 2017. The timelines for integration were chosen and subsequently postponed by Traxsource for valid and unavoidable reasons. The 'set in stone' date of May 1st was their choice as was made clear in our previous announcement.
User: "please tell us about new exchanges." Dev: We have submitted, and are still actively submitting exchange listings. That's all we can say right now. We know that's not exactly what you want to hear but it's the truth.
User: "Good luck finding a link to that "press release" anywhere, likely fake." Dev: It's probably a good idea to wait and see next time before you accuse us of being fraudsters. The press release was entirely Traxsource's idea. They are fully aware that this further delay from their end might hurt our reputation and this is the last thing they wanted to happen. They have supported us from the start. The music industry is extremely fluid and unfortunately full of unexpected circumstances that often cause delays.
User: "reveal the identity of the devs please" Dev: If you are unable to trust us without knowing who we are then this isn't the project for you. There are plenty of crypto projects with photographs and linkedin accounts for you to invest in. We have our reasons for wanting to remain anonymous which we'll explain a bit more in the following answer.
User: "Could you provide a valid business reason why being anonymous is a good thing for Linx?" Dev: Sure. Has the anonymous nature of Bitcoin prevented it from being adopted? Charlie Lee recently stated that he will eventually pull away from the Litecoin project as he doesn't feel having a public head for the project is a good thing. We feel exactly the same way. Any project should thrive (or fail) based on the project, and not who is behind it and what they say or do. Also remaining anonymous allows us to poole our enormous resources without interference from the crypto community. For example - this was tweeted directly to our retail partner yesterday "@traxsource we have some developers who will build and deploy a working product. No need to work with @linXcoin".
User: "scam exit today?" Dev: No.
User: "So they've dumped everything" Dev: No.
User: "Why release the name of the partner? if the deal was still on you would keep the name hidden for competitive advantage" Dev: Do you think that this was the way either us or Traxsource wanted to announce this integration? Can you imagine the fallout if we had simply said that there was another delay without telling you anymore? We had no choice but to reveal the name and we are massively disappointed that we had to do it this way.
User: "The fact that you didn't begin the marketing is a problem" Dev: Yes it is a problem but we couldn't. The marketing of this integration is a joint venture between ourselves and Traxsource.
User: "obviously this is a huge disappointment for you guys, as I can't even imagine the man hours you've put into this project." Dev: Yes this is a massive disappointment for us. We have been working towards this since last year. Other aspects of the project were put on the back burner as this took priority. It's the last thing we wanted or expected and has put us behind schedule several times now, not to mention also delaying other aspects that were tied to the release of this integration. We are now having to adjust our strategy to fit the situation which is not easy when we've been working to said strategy for over a year.
User: "Also if items have changed it would be good to provide fans with more realistic + achievable timelines" Dev: Although we completely understand, and in another situation would totally agree, this is something that we will not be doing. Once bitten... From here on out we will only talk about things that are imminent. That way there is no room for disappointment on either side. We feel this is the only way to proceed and maintain credibility in the current climate.
User: "thank you for this good partnership" Dev:Thank you for again being one of the few that has actually picked up on what a big achievement this is. From the very start we asked you to trust us and for those that have, hopefully we've been proven worthy of that trust.
User: "The team must show more respect for investors" Dev: We haven't received a single penny of investment from anybody.
User: "If they didn't care about crypto community and communication at all, why give all those promises they knew they couldn't 100% deliver?" Dev: The failure for this to happen on the announced dates was not our call, we were 100% ready.
User: "So no milestone has been accomplished" Dev: If pairing up with one of the biggest retailers in our industry and thereby opening Linx up to an entirely new and significantly large audience is not a milestone then nothing we do is ever going to be good enough for you.
User: "The "store upgrade workload" reason sounds bullshit." Dev: It's not. We know the reasons for the latest delay and they are 100% valid.
User: "I think the regulations gave them cold feet" Dev: That is not the reason, see answer above.
User: "I firmly believe that Linx will have its chance to show itself to the world, and maybe it will not take long". Dev: Thank you for the vote of confidence, so do we! We wouldn't be doing this if we didn't :)
User: "The fact is the awareness of this project is only maintained by the community." Dev: Do you really think Traxsource agreed to partner with us because of the Linx community?
User: "If you are really so confident, please at least show us some proof so we can trust?" Dev: Very confused by this question, this seems an impossible ask.
User: "technically, maybe it would have been better for the devs to simply just keep the project closed as they once mentioned" Dev: Agreed.
User: "Keep in mind that there seemed to have been a NDA between linx and their partner" Dev: A fact that most other people haven't picked up on and yes, you are correct. It's not just Linx that needs to keep plans under wraps for competitive edge, our partners do too.
User: "Take a closer look at Traxsource instead and what a quality business it appears to be." Dev: Exactly. Anybody who knows anything about our market knows how big a deal this is. Maybe it would be useful for some to go back and read what Linx is all about.
User: "I just hope that the devs won't lose the motivation to achieve what they had planned". Dev: No we won't. Of course we would benefit from less criticism and more support from the community though :)
User: "I can't speak for everyone but personally as an EDM fan I truly want to see the project become reality and would love to help make it become a reality in any way I can". Dev: You are exactly the kind of person that we hoped would get behind the project and we value your support.
Dev: We have only covered a handful of questions here but it is clear that 2 of the biggest concerns you have relate to communication from us and listing on more exchanges. We will look into making both of these matters a priority going forward. We appreciate that there are some of you that have been with us since the start and we wish this recent announcement had been different for you as much as for ourselves. The last thing we wanted to do is let anybody down. It's especially hard when things are beyond our control as they were in this instance. We'll ensure that a repeat of this situation doesn't happen again by only releasing information on things that are imminent, no big lead ups.
We also hope that our answers to some of your questions do not come across too rude or dismissive, as that is really not our intention, but it is really important that we are quite blunt in our answers to avoid any misunderstandings.
In closing we just want to say that we are very encouraged by the support and activity in the community run Telegram channel especially. Please don't think that we don't care about, watch and value your support in the community channels, we most certainly do.
May 15
Dev:Hey guys,
Hope you're all well.
To address one of the issues brought up recently we are going to be posting progress updates and answer some of your questions every week or two from now on. Any questions you have can be posted in any of the Linx social groups and we'll pick a few and answer what we can.
Progress Updates :
-- Exchanges: As you are all no doubt aware the space has changed a lot over the past few months and many exchanges now only seem to be interested in ERC20 tokens that have raised significant funds from an ICO - and therefore can afford the substantial listing prices that some centralised exchanges are currently charging. We have some options on the table but we would really like to hear feedback from the community as to which exchanges they would prefer to see us spend the money on.
With that said we are totally prepared to follow the listing fee route with exchanges that still offer this option (fewer and fewer of them around it seems), but as mentioned above we would like to get some feedback from you guys before we proceed as we need to choose wisely. We want to ensure that there is a bigger marketplace for Linx traders but at the same time we don't want to see pump and dumps.
We have already submitted listing applications to several of the big exchanges but we have no further details to report at this time.
We've also begun adding Linx to voting systems on exchanges that offer this feature. Here is the voting link for SouthXchange - https://www.southxchange.com/Home/Vote - the Linx voting address is 16bt2DWHh2hxzgjK31sCifiLuUcvQaUFti if you want to support this listing. If there are any exchanges in particular that you would like us to add please let us know.
Although this is not ideal right now we believe that the future is going to be much brighter as more and more people move towards decentralised exchanges. We most certainly will be adding Linx to as many of these as possible as soon as the updated Linx source is released. The updated source fully supports DEX requirements.
-- Platform: We implemented some exciting tech this week on the streaming side of things. Beta testers will get to try it first and once we're happy that the platform is ready to launch we'll be able to tell you about it. Yes this is secretive but for good reason. We are not trying to sell anything based on this information, we're just keeping you in the loop while building something new and fresh. The last thing we need is somebody trying to copy our ideas before we've had a chance to release them. All things going well we should be in a position to give you a timeframe for the beta release in the next update. If you are wondering why you can't see any activity on our github for anything to do with the platform it's because it's all being done on our own self hosted private gitlab repository. At some point in the future we may open this repo up for community contributions, but for now it's strictly an in-house affair. Just because you can't see what's happening doesn't mean we're not busy beavering away :)
-- Retail Integration: No further news on this at the moment, please see the statement from Traxsource if you are unaware of the current situation.
Please get your questions in for the next update, we're listening :)
Wishing you all a fantastic week and, as always, thank you for being #LinxHeadz!
User: can you expand even a little on the music streaming platform?
Dev:Sure, the streaming part is just one aspect of the platform. It will enable artists to self-distribute. It can be used to simply showcase their work (think Soundcloud etc) or it can be used as a direct-to-fan sales platform utilizing instant purchases and downloads. It can also be used as a secure private distribution platform, for example - a producer or band sending out demo's to record labels. The labels will be able to play the track but the public will have no access or even knowledge that the track exists.
User: Regarding the exchanges and fees: can you elaborate on what options are on the table?
Dev:We'd rather not for the simple reason that once we start naming exchanges it opens up the doors for potentially negative responses aimed at said exchanges, remember this is all being discussed in a public forum. But more importantly, we don't want to lead the conversation. Right now the addition of new exchanges is more important to you guys than it is to us, so we'd rather hear what you want without trying to steer the debate in one direction or another.
Thanks for the suggestions of exchanges so far, please keep them coming.
May 21
Dev: Hi guys, please find some responses to your recent comments, suggestions and questions below. Team Linx
User: "wish we had more info about the payment system" Dev: As mentioned before, we spent months building a highly customised version just for Traxsource. As well as being a realtime payment processing engine it also includes a fully detailed customer management and tracking system including accounting and refund processing. It's incredibly simple to install on a retailers server and it is also completely self-hosted. It doesn't rely on, or even talk to, any of our servers. It only requires one live encrypted node (that doesn't even have to be localised) to connect to the Linx blockchain and a server with a valid SSL certificate to operate. It will convert several different FIAT currencies into Linx on the fly based on the current average exchange rate and includes weighting options for the retailer to cover any potential price swings. It's a fully automated system that creates unique user accounts for each customer and tracks their purchase history - it can even offer automatic discounts based on this. It fully integrates with any existing customer database or accounting system that a retailer may already have. It has several levels of security built in including anti-fraud mechanisms. It has a complete user management system whereby the sysadmin can grant varying levels of restricted access to company employees. It truly is a one click solution for any retailer that wants to start accepting Linx on an existing store and a fully functional out of the box customer management system for those wanting to open an online store from scratch. What was once a simple payment processing engine has evolved into a beast of a system unlike anything else out there in this space for sure.
User: "Do you feel the current developers can handle the workload required? Any plans to expand the linx team in the near term?” Dev: It is a lot of work, and the unexpected delays haven't helped at all, but it's important that these early stages of the platform are completed by the core team as they understand the full vision. Yes, we absolutely plan to expand the team once the platform stage is out of the way. We are actively looking for a dedicated lead iOS Dev, (if anybody in the community has suggestions we are all ears). We've already got people waiting to go with regards to the music PR side of things, we've had them from the start.
User: "new exchange suggestions" Dev: Many thanks to all of those that have put forward their suggestions of potential exchanges. We have been making applications where relevant. Some exchanges have already got back to us with offers of listing fees. Once we hear back from all of them we'll review the situation and decide where to go from there.
User: "Bittrex" Dev: We have already re-submitted Linx for listing on Bittrex. When we originally submitted it last year, the circulating coin supply was too low. At the time they required at least 10% of the total supply to be out there, this wasn't the case back then, but it is now. Please keep in mind that if Bittrex does decide to list Linx we will not be able to talk about it.
User: "TradeOgre also is free and good coins are being added there" Dev: Linx has been submitted for listing on TradeOgre.
User: "Dex exchanges" Dev: We will be submitting to many of these as soon as the updated source code is released. There are BIP's in the updated source that are required for DEX listings.
User: "what about the exchange you said you had?", "why aren't you talking about that?", "they have also made irresponsible announcements such as that they had 1 definite and more pending exchanges" Dev: We have definite options on the table to pay for listing Linx. We are not going to disclose what exchanges these are until, and if, we decide to actually go with any of these. This was the primary reason why we asked for your opinions.
User: "starting a community fund to cover exchange listing fees" Dev: Thank you, this is true community spirit and let's us know how much you care about this project being successful! Hopefully this won't be required but it's good to know that some of you have got our backs in this respect :)
User: "there's something fishy going with big buy orders", "looks like insider trading", "somebody knows something" Dev: As mentioned above, we have submitted Linx to several exchanges. It's possible that any of these could have decided to get some supply prior to a potential listing, but if that is the case we certainly wouldn't know about it.
User: "linx kiosk and linxtalk.org" Dev: Neither of these are anything to do with us.
User: "They abandoned the project for the moment. No roadmap,no news about exchanges, no news about the integration with TRAXSOURCE, no real dates when they communicate Only promises. I think they did on puropose to let the price go down" Dev: Categorically not true. Why would we want to kill the value of our own project and upset the entire community at the same time? We’d lose all round! If anything, it's posts spreading FUD like this that could be having negative effects on the price. Of course it's your right to say whatever you want if that's what you believe, just don't expect anything positive to come of it if you do though.
User: "sometimes I think they are professionals and they know what they do, other times I think they are naive and lacking in experience", "i think they are just to slow for crypto business", "I feel like the project is being run by arrogant musicians rather than business folk with common sense", "honestly I dont think we can expect anything from Linx" Dev: How are these comments at all helpful or constructive? Insulting our project management, our team's characters' and our abilities has no value and is nothing more than that - throwing insults. Not only is it unhelpful but it’s irresponsible to the rest of the community. These forums were set up for supporters of the project. Please remember that they are also accessible to any potential exchange or business partner. Anybody that uses these forums to simply slag off the project and the team are undermining all of our efforts and the efforts of the rest of the community to move the project forward, not to mention the negative effects comments like this will have on new members joining.
User: "They have said many times their least concern is the investors" Dev: Of course we are concerned that people have put their faith and trust in us and we aim to deliver, but if you want us to make a choice between working on making this happen or spending our time posting pointless updates to keep speculators happy the work will win every time.
We all win when we achieve what we've set out to do and then you guys start shouting about how great it is and inviting people to see for themselves. We've taken onboard the valid criticisms about the lack of communication and are actively rectifying that.
User: "You don't have to do things just to tick them..." Dev: So you want us to lie then? Wrong project.
User: "I doubt linx really want to avoid the crypto community and not understand the importance of community support, but their stance is that they only want hype when the hype is supported by fact. After being burnt by their own mini-hype they are even more conservative in leaking info now." Dev: 100% correct. It has never been our intention to cut the crypto community out, if that were the case we would have just got on and done our thing without even bothering to tell anybody about it until we were ready to go.
We are all too aware of what "community" can sometimes mean in the crypto space. We know there are many of you that support our vision and are very excited, as are we, about what we are trying to achieve, but sadly this doesn't ring true for lots of others. We're not naive, we know a lot of you are here to make money and then move on to the next thing. That's absolutely fine, but don't get that confused with "community support". What we have tried to do from the start is minimise the hype/fud that "communities" rely on as our goal for this project is much more than to just be another coin sitting on an exchange. We are building something that we hope will revolutionise the way assets change hands in our industry (the music business). This is why we haven't subscribed to the same tactics that some other crypto projects use. We know we have something here and we believe we can make this happen. We don't need, or want, people shilling the project based on future promises. We brought this project to the crypto community to give those of you that liked the sound of what we are planning the chance to get involved and support it early. We knew we were a way off from realising most of our goals which is why we haven't hyped it yet.
User: "hard questions require harder answers" Dev: Couldn't agree more, let's do it!
User: "1. Rapidly improve the entire approach to communications and remove all previous lead dev arrogance.” Dev: Communication criticisms have been taken on board, hence the regular Q&A. Lead dev arrogance? What is your reason for this comment? Please expand.
User: "2. List the coin on many many more exchanges immediately (Use dev fee if needed and discuss community raised funds).” Dev: As mentioned above, Linx has been submitted to many exchanges and the community raised funds issue has also been addressed.
User: "3. Hire more team members (actually use the dev fee / no man is an island)." Dev: So you'd like us to dump our dev fee on the exchanges to hire some more people? What do you suppose that would do to the price and confidence in the project right now? Is this really what you want us to do? We are managing this project responsibly. As explained above, we will expand our team when needed.
User: "4. Set out a new clear product roadmap that is achievable, and stick to it. This is just software, break it down and get it out there.” Dev: We have a roadmap. This isn't just "software". We are talking about opening up the crypto space to an entirely new market here. The marketing and branding of this project is just as, if not more, important as the "software".
User: "5. Stop creating more hidden sub projects / idealistic dreams, this will hurt the overall brand and project long term, if the mic cable gets pulled out again inadvertently.” Dev: You mean like issuing a new roadmap?
User: "6. Think about strategy, security and data privacy, way in advance (GDPR re: linx social platform api usage - should have seen that a mile off).” Dev: Security and privacy have been utmost in our thinking since day one. It's one of the reasons we created Linx in the first place. It's also why we shut down our web wallet. With regards to GDPR we have been fully compliant since the first line of code was typed. What we couldn't account for was how the big social platforms were going to limit, or in some cases entirely lock down their API’s due to GDPR. We've had to make adjustments based on ongoing changes being made to these platforms, as will any other platform using API’s in this way. As mentioned in the last Q&A this has actually pushed us in another, much bolder direction than we first anticipated. It's just going to take a bit longer to realise it.
User: "7. Release the new 2.0 source code and talk about it with your community." Dev: The new source is coming and there will be a full update about what's changed when it's released.
User: "8. Do more Q&A’s." Dev: Hello :)
User: "9. Listen to and work with your community (crypto or otherwise) there is much intelligence in mass. Do not ever alienate them again, these are your fans, holders and miners, keeping your network secure. Without them, this will be doomed to the bedroom.” Dev: We are well aware of the importance of the miners that secure the network. We chose a POW algorithm to ensure that Linx could involve the entire crypto scene. We also value the support of the community when it's real support or valid criticism, and not just bitching because their planned pump and dump didn't pay off. As you can see, we will happily address any valid question or criticism. But we're not going to pander to people that are simply insulting us.
User: "10. Keep positive." Dev: Why would we not be positive? It does wonders for our team moral reading comments from our "supporters" about how useless we are, it really encourages us. Seriously though, If you really mean this and want us to keep positive then you the community can help with this. Insulting us, spreading FUD & general negging is not the way to help with positivity.
